Alright, so I'm trying to install FMCB using the Gameswap method. I'm on a fat PS2, version SCPH-50004 and trying to do this with some demo I found, 'scee hits demo'. I don't have any of the games on the list on the tutorial page about the gameswap method, so I looked through the .isos of my games, looking for an .ELF file, and I found one on there, so I used that instead of a real game because I was scared of breaking the disc or something.
Okay, so I downloaded Apache, LCISOCreator and uncompressed BOOT,ELF. The .ELF file on the demo disc was called SLY2,ELF, which indicated that you would need to start playing the Sly 2 demo to get this working. I then used LCISO to get the .iso file of the demo, changed the Size (dec) of SLY2,ELF to 915196, renamed uncompressed BOOT,ELF to SLY2,ELF and updated the file, all using Apache, and finally burned the changed .iso to a DVD+RW, so I basically did everything the tutorial said.
Now, after finally getting the hang of disc swapping, I put the original demo disc in my PS2, waited for the demo to boot, and swapped the disc in the main menu. My problem is that the whole thing just freezes after I select the Sly 2 demo. Actually, after checking, starting any demo will absolutely freeze my ps2.
Now I'm wondering what to do. Does this mean that I used a DVD that was too cheap? I read somewhere that the ps2 wouldn't be able to read the DVD if you used a cheap one.
Btw, by ',ELF' I mean '.ELF'. It wouldn't let me post it as '.ELF'
Thanks for reading, hope someone knows a solution.
I think I know what the problem was...

Try again using a DVD-R, and I recommend burning at 4x speed, as that has ALWAYS worked for me (where as 8x worked a couple of times, and anything faster isn't worth the wasted disc).
If you can, get a Verbatim DVD-R, I hear they are the best brand. I bought one recently, with a case, for under a dollar...and that was in Ecuador, the land of high electronics prices :P
Good luck bro, hope you get FMCB installed
Thanks a lot man, I'll see if I can find a DVD-R in my house somewhere and try it again asap. I'll report back soon
