I have been using Free Mcboot for a long time now, but after using it for about 3 month's maybe longer, maybe less, it started to take reset after reset in order to get my PS2 to read the backup cd's and start. Now, it doesn't start up at all anymore. I can still play games that aren't burned.
I haven't changed any configurations, so I don't get what could have caused it?

I'm using DVD+R Cd's from Platinum, burning them at a speed of 8x. Always worked, up till now.

I will answer any questions, so help is appreciated.

Yes, I have always been using ESR.

A small note; I stated that I burned it at a speed of 8x, but I always burn my games at a speed of 4x.
Sorry for the mistake and for my slow reaction.

Use better discs like Verbatim DVD-R discs (With Super AZO) that were manufactured by Taiyo Yuden or Mitsubishi.

    Clean your laser too.

    1. Definitely get the -R discs. They work, when the +Rs don't.
    2. How would you clean the laser? We have a disc that's supposed to clean the laser of DVD players, because it has a small brush on the underside of the disc, and you are supposed to skip to a certain chapter and that sweeps the brush over the laser, cleaning it. Would you recommend that, or something else?

However, it seems like some consoles work better with DVD+R discs.

While I suppose that such a disc would work, I believe that the usage of alcohol and something suitable like a cotton bud (Or if you can have something better, use it!) to wipe the lens gently is better.

when i had v4 console it only read dvd-r discs. even after replacing laser with brand new.

current v10 is much more tolerant and handles both types, even after being quite worn down already.

    So, I should use a DVD-R disks.

But how am I supposed to clean the laser? I have one of the older PS2's, in which the lens isn't accessible by just opening the tray.
I'll give a notice when I've tried the DVD-R disks, if they work or not.

    Thank you all.

Just try using the Verbatim DVD-R discs first.

The only way to personally clean the laser of the FAT PS2 is to open the console, exposing the laser.
