Game won't boot –
05-03-2011,02:40 AM
I'm using version 1.8 of Free McBoot and i have the normal options that were installed with it.
Browser
System Configuration
uLaunchELF
Launch Disk
Reload Configuration
Free McBoot Configurator
I have also ripped the ISO file from my disk using IMGBURN and patched the ISO with the ESR Disk Patcher.
However, when i try to start up the disk i burned it simply goes to a black screen for about a minute then back to the main menu. When i start up the system with the burned disk in the slot it shows the Free McBoot logo for a longer period of time, a short black screen then to the main menu.
Is there something that went wrong? I installed it just as the instructions said to. However my options don't show me anything about:
ESR
OpenPS2Loader
SMS
etc.
uLaunchELF was the only thing that made it into the main start up menu and i know i've seen others who have the above in their menu. Did something go wrong?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

use uLaunchelf to browse your MC to find out if ESR,SMS are on your card. they should be in the /boot folder. if they are you can add them to the OSDSYS screen using the FMCB configurator. If they are not on the MC then you can use uLe to copy them from a USB stick to the MC and then add them with the configurator.
did you use the newbie package to install FMCB? because thes should be on the card and on the OSDSYS menu by default.....

Thanks for the feedback, since i posted that i did finally figure out how to get them on there. I was just doing something wrong that was under my nose.
The burned disks still won't boot however. Same problem there.

ok, now we know that ESR is on your MC we can look at other problems.
firstly, with backups you do need to use a quality blank media. cheap no name disks may occasionally work however they will drastically shorten the lasers life.
secondly, the images need to bepatched with the ESR patcher before being burned at half the max speed of the disks, we recomend using IMGBURN to burn the disks and to set the burn speed to AWS.
thirdly, use DVD-R disks if you use DVD+R then you will need to set the "book type " ... i think its to DVD-rom but i have never used DVD+R disks so i cant remember.....

Hmm, would memorex be considered a good quality brand? I'm not sure.

I put an ISO through ESR_disc_patcher_GUI_v0.24a before i tried burning it. As for the half the max speed of the disk part. How can i tell what the max speed of the disk is?
I'm already using IMGBURN so that's all fine but i don't believe i'm familiar with "Burn Speed AWS" or i AWS stands for something.

Indeed, i'm using DVD-R and even says so on the disk.

AWS = automatic write speed. it can be selected on the burn screen when you select burn image to disk.....

It isn't too good.
Verbatim DataLife Plus DVD-R discs that were manufactured by either Taiyo Yuden or Mitsubushi are the best.
Taiyo Yuden (Verbatim) DVD-R discs have a code of TYG02 or TYG03.
Mitsubishi (Verbatim) DVD-R discs have a code or either MCC02 or MCC03.
I had just found a nice document containing a reference for some disc manufacturer codes: https://www.sony-optiarc.eu/uploads/..._medialist.pdf

Alright, that worked for me. It looks like i installed everything right. It was just how i was burning the back up.
I want to thank everyone here who helped me very much. I'm glad i had lots of friendly people to help walk me through this. I'm going to practice more on installing apps/ Free MC Boot etc. so i can do the same service for people here in the future.
[EDIT] Actually scratch that first part. It only worked when i backed up God Hand. I tried backing up three other games and it didn't take just like before. I'm starting to think just using Open PS2 Loader with an external Hard Drive would be easier than all this burning nonsense. Plus it wouldn't be hard on my laser to do that either.
There isn't some special trick involved with that is there? Just format the drive to FAT32 and put the ISO's on there right?

best read the OPL tutorials.. link is top left of every page . . . . . . . .
iso needs to be named correctly ie. SLUS213.11.nameofgamehere.iso
put 2 folders in the root of the drive CD and DVD. iso's that are dvd's need to go in the DVD folder.... and so on for CD images....
otherwise they will not show up on the OPL game list.
the HDD HAS to be formatted to FAT32 or it wont work either. this also means that the game iso is limited to 4Gb. any games bigger than that need to be installed a different way......

Does SLUS213.11 go before everything, or is that just an example? When i finish ripping some of my games they simply come out as "Image" for the file name while others retain the name of the game in it's filename.

Well that could be difficult. There are tons of PS2 games that are over 4Gb. So if they go over that limit do they simply not show up or just crash when you try to play it?
On a side note, still no idea how God Hand worked and nothing else did. The file name is et-ghand and i patched it like normal and burned it in IMGBURN on AWS like instructed. I did the exact same thing with the other games and nothing doing. Are there anomalies in the files or way i'm doing this that could make it act up like this?
