FreeMCBoot and modchip question

Hello there fellows,
well my old PS2 laser is at an end or so it seems, it wont boot 2-3 times of 5. I'm using latest HDloader and have some kind of modchip installed in it but sadly I don't know which :(

So I'm looking into some alternative ways of booting games form my HD :) And I came across freeMCboot. Was doing a lot of research and finally made a install CD for 1.7 version when at the end of the readme I saw that I shouldn't use MCboot if I have modchip one that I can't turn off :cry:

So what is the deal? Can I still use it? Is there any other way to boot games from my harddrive but not using dvd-drive?

If I understand it correctly if I install MCboot I can install hdloader on my memory card as well, so no more need for dvd/cd in drive... Right?

best thing to do is try it, cant break anything :)

if mcboot starts up then you should be fine, launch hdl from memcard or hdd

i remember seeing that post somewhere about the modchips but i dont recall where... if i remember tho it was for certain chips only it wouldn't work.

so once again... just try it :D

or you could try doing multi-version install on somebody's else ps2 of the same region.

or you can do this :

install fmcb to your memcard. if it works - great. if your ps2 hangs on black screen or something - take out the memcard, boot your ps2 into the browser, plug the memcard and remove the invalid directories.

Well keep your fingers crossed than :) Hope I got everything right, gonna try and do it later today when I get home from work

Hmmm, nothing happens :)

When I inser the disc I burned I get to browser menu and I can see Memory Card and a Disc image saying "Playstation Disc". When I chose that image nothing happens :/

I followed this guide:

and I got:
BOOT.ELF
ESR.ELF
HDLOADER.ELF
SMS.ELF

from around the web and put them into the install folder named like this.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

hmmm still no luck... tried again but still the same thing. Should I burn this to DVD perhaps and not CD?

Also if anyone feels generous and have done such cd/dvd before could you please for the love of the all holy hook me up ;)
