I've got 2 64MB cards, both of which work properly with my slimline... but booting them on my fat PS2s is really like a "hit or miss" game.
So yea, it seems like they really only work on a slimline as advertised...

on my 39004 i tried Max Memory 32MB and two 64MB cards of unknown brand which i got from ebay for ~€6 each. made of sturdy plastics and two screws on the underside.
All worked fine but the Max Memory performed very poor in reading and writing speeds. The two 64MB cards were even faster than the 2 Sony originals i have.
I've never seen any 128MB models anywhere but i've hard others talk about them. According to PS2 specs those are not supported officially. There must be some tricks invoved with them so that might be why fmcb does not work on them.
€: corrected errors. added last sentence
I have my step sons Kemco 8 MB card runs good.
Also have 2 official 8 mb card runs as they should.
I have one of those 128MB cards and it was very unreliable. I had to format it to 64MB to get FMCB to work reliably with it. I also use Max Memory cards (32MB and 64MB) with FCMB successfully. I have a really old 32MB generic card which does not work.
