It can be installed on some unofficial MC but sometimes just slower booting sometimes fails completely just have to try to find out![]()

Is how all good gaming systems came to beI tried 3 unofficial 8mb MC's and 1 128mb and it installed on all 3 8mb but only worked on 1, it wouldn't even install on the 128mb
All shoot. I already bought one off eBay... It was a Mad Catz 8 mb one. Hopefully it'll work. Can you please tell me the brand of yours that did and didn't work?
No sorry it was ages ago and I sold em. I ended up getting a few official MC's second hand from EB Games and they were only about $10 each, probably less now
i've purchased 64mb chinese knockoffs from d e a l e x t r e m e and they all installed freemcboot without issues. it does seem a little slower when booting, but it DOES have 8 TIMES the space to look through.... i read that the 128mb ones had a lot of issues with compatibility, so i just stuck with the 64mb ones. as it is, there are over 100 game saves, about 20 apps, and freemcboot all happily installed on a 64mb card with more than 30mb free! lol

there are many many replys to this same question.
the basic answer is that it will install on any card that has a valid magicgate id.
HOWEVER. a lot of the cheap chinese clone cards are substandard chips and are slow..... i have had it installed on a 64MB card and it worked for 2 weeks then intermitantly failed to boot due to FMCB not being read quick enough for the boot secquence so it missed the boot and went straight to the sony browser.
BUT. what you can do is install to an 8 Mb card then put that card IN SLOT 2. you can then put your larger card in slot 1 for game saves. FMCB will happily boot from the second slot. there are a few games i have found that will not save to a MC that is bigger than 8Mb and i have had to swap to slot one for that game.
i personally have FMCB on an 8Mb card in slot 2 and a 16Mb card in slot 1 for saves. this way you can use all the card for homebrew and all the other card for saves......

I run FMCB 1.8c on a 16MB Datel Max Memory card with no issues.
I can testify that it works on my 32 mb card; although I don't know what brand (probably Chinese) it is, but FreeMCBoot works fine (although it might load slower than my other card, I'll have to check).
the most complaints of it not working were with 64Mb cards...... most of which came out of china via Hong Kong/Ebay... lol
i have 2 16Mb cards both working.... and a Futuretronics 8Mb card also working.....
