FREEMCB.CNF issues –
01-02-2011,02:32 PM
I've been using FMCB for a few years now, and I've never had any problems with it. However, I stopped using FMCB for about half a year. I came back to it because I wanted to play Tales of Rebirth again.
It's a Japanese game, I have a USA PS2, because of that, I have a backup of it I made of it patched with ESR. I've played it just fine every time I wanted to play it.
Now here's my problem. To start with, I went to load FMCB. It gave me a black screen of doom right after the FMCB logo. No menu, no anything. So I turned it off and took out my USB stick, same problem. I originally thought the USB stick might be the problem since I had taken everything off my USB stick and then put it all back on so I could use FMCB. I thought maybe I forgot something, but apparently I didn't. I knew it had to be the memory card at that point, so I used my Swap Magic disc and reinstalled FMCB (format MC, normal install).
Everything went fine. I had a FREEMCB.CNF with all of my FMBC stuff to put on my USB stick, so I put it on there with everything else. It reloaded my menu from before the memory card messed up. I was happy about that. I didn't have ESR on my current menu choices though, so I decided I would put it back on there so I could play Tales of Rebirth. Went to the configuration, and added ESR. I saved my changes to MC 0. Reloaded FMCB, and my menu was UNCHANGED. I tried again, same thing.
So, I reinstalled FMCB (format MC, normal install), thinking that was the problem. Nope. Still won't let me change anything. So, I deleted the FREEMCB.CNF off the USB stick and turned off my PS2. I tried to turn it on, and it froze on the FMBC logo. So, I turned off my PS2 again and put the file back on. At this point, I went into ULaunchELF and copied the FREEMCB.CNF on my PS2 memory card, deleted the FREEMCB.CNF off the USB Stick, and copied the FREEMCB.CNF that came from my memory card onto the USB Stick. So, once again, I turned off my PS2 and tried again. The FMCB logo came up and froze there again.
At this point, I simply wanted to scream. So, I got the idea to once again reinstall FMCB (format MC, normal install), but this time keep the FREEMCB.CNF off of the memory stick, figuring this might be the problem. So, I did that, and I'm greeted to the FMCB logo frozen on the screen...AGAIN.
So...I put that stupid file back on the USB Stick again so I can get back into my unchangeable menu.
EDIT: Found something else interesting, I'm on FMCB 1.8 but the configurator comes up as 1.6? I just now noticed that. It's saving my menu changes too, because everything I changed pops up. It's not changing on the PS2 menu, however. That's kinda weird. I'm going to try and reinstall FMCB, but this time I'm redownloading FMCB 1.8B and and removing my files off the USB Stick, so I can see if that's my problems. Maybe my files are messed up.
EDIT 2: Okay, so I reinstalled FMCB again with the new files, and I was able to finally fix the menu. This thread can be closed now, sorry for wasting a post. >_<
