I currently use the independence exploit and run ulaunch(an old old version at that). In any case, I would like to get around to installing FMC but I never seem to find a tutorial with a way using softmod. Also, does this format my MC and do I lose my saves? Another thing is having to have a correct configuration always scares me cause I feel like I'm going to mess up(a reason I never upgrade ule).

Take a USB Stick, load the FMCB package from the newby tutorial, unzip the package to your USB-Stick, start your PS2, start ulaunchelf, start the ule Filebrowser and with that, start der FreeMCBoot.elf from your USB Stick (mass: ).

    TUTORIAL AND DOWNLOAD (klick)

Edit: an no, you donīt need to format your MC, youīll only need a few free Space on your card.

download the noobie package from the tutorial.
    http://freemcboot.info

also follow the INJECT guide to make the install smaller.

extract the noobie package on to a usb flash drive.

place your correct dvdelf in the inject folder of that install package on your usb stick.

plug it in and boot up your system to uLE

enter the file browser and launch the installer from the flash drive.

    let it install.

restart your system without a trigger disc and enjoy.

edit - you beat me to it.

The safest way probably is to install the FMCB-Nooby-Package to a clean (2nd) MC, but if you only have one for example you wonīt break anything (your existing Saves, or the PS1-Exploit), when you install FMCB.

So even if you would have an incomplete FMCB-Install (USB-Drivers/ELFs missing...) you can still add them to your MC, with your existing PS1-Exploit-uLE-Install.

Also, does this format my MC and do I lose my saves?
What the others already said. No, you wonīt lose your saves, since you donīt need to format the MC.
It is only recommented, to guarantee the highest chance for a clean and valid install.

Another thing is having to have a correct configuration always scares me cause I feel like I'm going to mess up(a reason I never upgrade ule).
    Try it out.
You donīt need to configure much, with the FMCB-"Nooby-Package".
If you want, you can also put your ELFs on a USB-Stick and load it from there, to save even more space on MC.
