    Hi All,
I'm attempting to install FMCB via a FAT32 formatted Freecom 4Gb USB stick, using Max Media Player to boot the exploit on a 70003.

Files copied as per sks tutorial, free_mcboot.elf in root directory, INSTALL folder copied to root as well.

When the Media Player scans the filesystem, it only shows the ELF files from the INSTALL directory - not free_mcboot.elf.

I tried deleting the INSTALL folder, and I'm able to see the correct .elf file. However, I receive a black screen on attempting to load it.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of behaviour? I've tried a few USB sticks, however this is the only one where at least some files are listed.

    Any help appreciated!

This was stated in the tutorial:
    NOTE:
Many USB devices are simply not fully compatible with AR Max, even though they recognise the device, it may not show all files or boot them properly. Do not take out the USB device and re-insert it while AR Max is running, "Hot-Swapping" is not a good idea with AR Max.
Here are 2 known methods you can try to get around the incompatibility if either one will show in the Media Players menu.
If none will display, then try another USB device.

Yes, it has been experienced, documented, and noted. The problem is AR Max ...it seems picky on the USB devices and even then it seems to only allow certain files to display.

Did you try the "next" button on screen? Sometimes that is overlooked that only 1 file at a time is displayed.
Make sure your USB stick is Formatted to FAT32 and try one of the other options in the tutorial, one may work for you.

Just try to put more than one ELF on your USB-Stick, which have the ability to launch an ELF.

    FCEU is one of those.

Thanks for the feedback JNABK. Yes, tried "next", etc. Definately in FAT32 format and even tried different allocation sizes to see if that would help.

Hmm, I guess I'll need to persist with more USB devices!

I wonder if there's anyone in Scotland who'd be willing to install onto my card, the various boot methods are quite hard to come by here

I got an idea, you said you can see the files from the INSTALL folder, right?

See if you can boot the BOOT.ELF, it should be uLaunchELF.

If it does, then you can choose the FileBrowser and goto mass:
Then you should be able to boot the FREE_MCBOOT.ELF and the install should work ok.

Also, if you have a PSP, they work as a USB device in the PS2, so try that if ya got one.

Tried, but got a black screen

It must be the USB stick that Media Player doesn't like.

I was thinking of burning a DVD with the files on it, would this method work or is this person using a modchip?

Tried a CD with CDGenPS2, however my PS2 laser doesn't seem to like CD-Rs.

Tried FCEU too TnA, it only ever sees the original .elfs from the package. Bit bizarre really.

Yep, AR Max is a bit of an ODD Ball company and most of their products work "barely" and do not seem to play well with other devices.

I can only suggest to keep trying other USB devices or find someone willing to install it for you from your area.

Over here is an bit of an explanation of issues with Datels ELF loader. Its talking about 'Memory Plus 64' rather than 'AR Max' but the are both Datel so they probably have the same issues.

I have not tried this myself but this might work:
    1. copy MPLUS-LOADER.ELF to the root driectory of your USB drive.
    2. copy uLE to the root of your USB drive and rename it to EXECUTE1.ELF. Make sure the case is exact.
    3. Execute MPLUS-LOADER.ELF using AR Max.

If that doesnt work try MPLUS-LOADER2.ELF instead.

just curious - what would happen if you would remove all partitions off that usb device and create a one, small parttion? (e.g. 256 or 512mb)

i've never actually tested any bigger usb storage with ps2. maybe that could help?

radad1 - excellent info, I'll have a look at this properly later and report on my findings.

yoshi314 - yeah, tried various partition sizes on the USB stick, no luck.
