Free McBoot won't play Japanese backups –

I'm trying to play a Japanese backup of Biohazard Outbreak File #2 but when I insert the disc it simply goes to the red "Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc" error message. I know the disc works fine as I've played it using Swap Magic many times.
When I try to load it via Swap Magic, using Free Mcboot having removed the laser blocking devices it just displays a black screen.
I can't go back to using the swap magic + tools method because I no longer have the tools.
If you have esr, then you need to copy Biohazard into your computer, patch it with the ESR disc patcher (you can find it somewhere on the forums) and then insert it into your ps2.

Do you have to do that with even American discs? Because I have a backup of San Andreas and I don't remember ever patching it, and it works.
With ESR, it works only with the patch. The patch basically adds a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder to the iso so the PS2 will load the disc, then ESR steps in and launches the game. You will need to patch every disc and I find it weird that you San Andreas disc works without the patch.

1. To play over FMCB with ESR you have always (all games and region-games) make your game in .iso format, patch it with ESR-Disc-Patcher and finaly burn it.
2. If you are 100% sure that your backup of GTA SA is not patched with ESR, then you have definitely a chiped PS2.....
each PS2 can be different and very picky on what brand of blank disk works and at what speed they like to be burned at.
from experience of these forums the general rule is to burn your disks at AWS (average write speed) with the program IMGBURN. use good quality disks as well.
burn a cheap disk at max speed and i guarantee you it wont read......
