I have a slim PS2 (SCPH-70012 model) and I have been trying to install Free McBoot (1.7 and 1.8b versions) and I keep getting a black screen.

My copy of AR Max has Max Media Player and at first, it would find the file on the USB flash drive and I would begin to install it, but nothing happens. Lately, the Media Player doesn't even show the Free McBoot file but instead the file for FMCB_CFG.ELF (Free McBoot Configurator) and it doesn't even install that either. I've reformatted the flash drive numerous times and it still doesn't install! The Wii is easier to mod than a 9-year-old system.....

Do I necessarily need Swap Magic and/or a modchip or block the sensors for the program to install? What am I doing wrong?

Try this FMCB installation tutorial which is done with AR Max Evo:
    http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/en_armax.htm

Non-Evo versions of AR Max only work with the old fat PS2.
    Slim PS2 SCPH-70004 (v13) w/ FMCB, 3x Sony 8MB, 1x MaxMemory 16MB (Backup card)

I'm not available for FMCB installation service until I can guarantee a processing time of a few days again, sorry.

I tried that and it doesn't seem to work. I'm fairly sure I have the EVO edition because it came with a flash drive.

I'm wondering if it's the USB flash drive (which I heard is partially the reason it may not install). I'll try to get a new out of the box Flash drive today and see if that helps.

Does AR Max work with Free McBoot once it's installed or no (i.e. use cheat codes on backups)?
