I've installed Free MC Boot ver 1.7 on my 64MB memory card using my SCPH-5002. I used standard and multi install both didn't work. I put BOOT.ELF and SMS.ELF on the Install directory. What is happening is, while holding R1 I turn the PS2 on it won't go to Ulauncher but it will go to Free MB Boot Screen. But for example I select Ulauncher or SMS it will then go to Sony browser and will have a message "no data" on memory card. If I restart it again, it will not go to Free MC Boot. Instead it will go again to sony browser but this time it see the data on the memory card.

    SCPH-5002
    Browser 1.40
    CD Player 2.00
    Playstation Driver 1.11
    DVD Player 3.02A

But if I tried that same memory card with Free MC Boot on my SCPH-79002 it work perfectly. Which I think proved that my installation of Free MC Boot is successful.

    SCPH-79002
    Browser 1.40
    CD Player 2.00
    Playstation Driver 2.00
    DVD Player 3.11A

Any suggestion on how to resolve the problem? Do I need to update my SCPH-5002? Any idea how? Thanks.

One more thing on my SCPH-79002, I can't watch DVD movies while the memory card is plugged. I need to take it out for it to work. Is there any other way to play DVD without removing the memory card with MC Boot.

I had similar problem with free mc boot. My ps2 is a SCPH-30003.

The 64Mb card works fine in browser for copying saves ect. but doesn't work for directly loading or saving in a game and although free mc boot installs ok doesn't boot from 64Mb card, but it works fine from Sony 8Mb card?
Don't know if its cheep cards or if it's to do with sony's magic gate system (only saying this cause my 64Mb card doesn't say magic gate on it) or what?

All I do know is it worked from my Sony 8Mb Card without any problems.
You may be able to do a minimal install on 8Mb card and keep all your utilities ect. on 64Mb card.
