Is Free MC Boot for me?

Hi there guys,
I have been looking to play import PS2 games on my Australian PS2, and had been looking into getting my system mod-chipped, which seemed expensive and complex. But then I heard about Free MC Boot, and I thought I'd check with you guys if it would be suitable for my purposes:
1) Does the hack work on original games? I've heard only burnt games work, I want the play the original disks.
2) Do Playstation 1 games work? Last I heard, you needed to install a PS1 emulator, you couldn't use the PS1 hardware on the PS2 to play PS1 games.
3) I've got a Hori 8MB memory card, would this be usable?
4) Is the hack able to play ANY PS2 games without problems?
5) I heard that you can't use component cables when using Free MC Boot, is this true?
6) Does the PS2 function essentially the same as stock when using Free MC Boot? i.e I don't need to force the drive open, swap a boot disk and the menu and GUI look basically the same as stock?

Firstly, you must understand that FMCB is only a homebrew boot loader. It does not allow you to play any games that you were originally unable to play.

1. Use ESR. Look for the main thread for ESR within the ESR subforums on this forum.
2. No. You have to use an emulator. It can also be found under the ESR subforums.
3. Maybe. If it has a complete Magicgate implementation, it should work. If it was manufactured under a Sony license, it should work.
4. FMCB does not allow you to play games directly. Use ESR if you would like to use discs... otherwise, use OPL for booting games off the HDD or via SMB, and use PS2ESDL if you would want to play games off a USB device.
5. False. No functionality should be lost.
6. Yes, it'll look the same. The OSD will look slightly different, but you can opt to disable that.

If I'm reading this correctly, in order to play games with ESR, you need to patch the game first. This would mean burning a copy of the game correct? Again, I'm looking to use the original disks, not burnt copies.

yes, as far as i know you cannot make ps2 accept pressed disks from other region without hardware modifications (but i could be wrong here).

or, you can always start OPL from FMCB and run games off smb share, and keep the original discs on the shelf (as i do, except i use hdd).

Damn, guess I'll look into a modchip then. I hear the Modbo 4.0 is a good one?

Yea, ESR only works with patched games.

Just avoid those problematic chips like the Crystal chip and those old ones.

mate, what model PS2 is it? phat or slim? date code if slim?

if its a phat then you need to get a Network adaptor and a HDD then you can install the import images on the HDD and play them from there.
why do you insist on playing the originals? most people want to preserve the original disks and also not burn out the laser......... your choice though.

It's a phat SCPH-50002. I know you can install disk images and play them on the PS2, but for me, but I want more than just "playing the game". I want the experience of playing the original disks on the console. I'm weird like that ;)
