Format MC with free MCBoot
Format MC with free MCBoot –
03-07-2009,01:57 PM
Hi again.
I want to format my memory card (please don't ask why), and it has free MCBoot in it. Is there a way to just run an elf file (like MC Killer) from an USB drive, using the ULE browser that is in the memory card that I'm going to format? It's like using ULE to erase it self and the rest of the memory card, is it possible?
Thanks again.

Yes, that is no problem.
uLE is not dependent on having constant access to 'itself' on the memory card.
And when uLE launches another program it transfers all control completely to that program, so it doesn't matter what dependencies uLE had before the launch, as it is then up to the newly launched program (here MC Killer) to handle everything. Since "MC Killer" is designed for formatting MCs it will obviously have no problems with this either, regardless of where it was launched from (even if that was from MC too).
The only potential problems here are two:
1: Make very sure that you still have some bootable MC apart from the one you format. Otherwise you will lose your ability to run homebrews/backups...
2: The MC Killer program might not be compatible with some clone memory cards, for which you may need to use ffgriever's "MC Annihilator" instead.

If you have the FMCB Installer ELF, you can also format the memory card that way. I've had to do that once.
