FMCB-Nooby-Installpackage 2011

What I did (and it worked for me) was to delete the FMCB files from my MC, move all my data off the MC to my USB HDD, then ran the install package. All without turning off the ps2 or resetting in between. I reccomend keeping it installed on one MC while doing this to make sure you do not need to do the disc swap again. You really shouldn't need to use the disc swap ever again AFAIK. I'm no expert though so make sure you keep a MC with FMCB installed just in case.

I run FMCB on the ps2 off the mc (with a spare FMCB mc nearby just in case) and then I should be able to simply re-install using the updated nooby package stored on a usb storage device (hdd or stick). That should overwrite/update the previous install.

Have I understood correctly?

Yes, that's it.

And if you are going to install to several MCs (for your friends too), then it makes sense to do them all in one session, one by one. So you boot an FMCB setup from an MC in one slot, and then insert the other MCs in the other slot and use that slot for their FMCB install commands.

After doing this for all the MCs except the one you originally booted from you should replace that one by one of the newly installed MCs, so you can try booting from that new FMCB setup before you reinstall it on the last card that still has the old setup.

This way you're sure not to lose the old setup before having verified that the new one works, while still minimizing the work required. (Rebooting only once, for the verification.)

As for the placement of the 'Nooby' package, I strongly recommend having it on a USB stick.

Not only does this make it much easier to maintain (just plugging that USB stick into a PC), but it also ensures that you can do the job using any compatible PS2, just by bringing an FMCB MC and that USB drive. Moving an HDD back and forth is more cumbersome and also more risky (as an HDD can take damage from any 'bumps' on the way).

Apologize. I didn't want to be rude with you. I am just worried to read on many topics that FMCB works withs 10k PS2. In pratice, many details are missing.

1. Booting the indepence exploit on 10k is very specific, near impossible for "normal" users.

2. FMCB setup does not works from a memory card on 10k, only from mass devices.

3. I know that the 10k's BIOS lacks of some modules and app (DVD player). But it has too few details on what FMCB installer do (signing elf regarding MCID, but why not simply make a program to do this ?). Concequently, 10 k users must install FMCB from scratch, cross fingers and hope it works...

I have the DVDplayer app installed on my memory card. I took the dvdplayer .elf and renamed to DVDELF.BIN. But at this step (decrypting DVDELF), the installer freeze. What wrong ? It's the wrong file ? Very anoying...

Eh? But FMCB v1.8b works perfectly on my SCPH-10000 ever since I got FMCB installed on it.
The only thing that it lacked was the hacked OSDSYS, but I never needed that anyway (Since I usually launch PS2ESDL directly for games, and uLE for other purposes).

The only problem was that I needed to get a DVDELF.bin file from another Japanese console (Which I didn't have).

But users could borrow another Japanese PS2 to install FMCB with.

Really? Anyways, keeping the installer on a MC isn't really practical (It's large and the MC is slow).

There was a program that did that - it was part of embed-tools.
Anyways, the installer does that automatically to spare newbies the pain of manually signing the KELF (Which must be signed with the ID of the target MC). :lol:

Actually, the installation of FMCB on a SCPH-10000/SCPH-15000 isn't too difficult - provided that the laser isn't dead. :banghead:

It doesn't work that way. I tried that too - but the DVD Player v1.0x file doesn't seem to be a usable KELF for FMCB v1.8b's installation. :(
I believe that it should be possible (The dvdplayer.elf file is encrypted too) - but that isn't working for some reason.

The DVDELF.BIN file must come from a newer (Japanese) console.

I know, I don't need hacked OSDSYS just ULE. I want to patch ULE to boot directly.

OK, but the DVD player installed on my MC come from the BBnav 0.32 CD. Is the 3.xx player version. Do you mean that I must find a program dumped from a japanese 30k (or newer) PS2 bios ?

It needs to be from a Japanese 18K or newer console.

Nice work , sorry it took so long to find out about it. I've updated the Noobie Guide with it and added a changelog. :)

Incredible task, still don't know what made the difference.
Own fault thoug, didn't do any backups.

(controller cord has some connection problems)

Version 3 or 4 EU machine and AR Max Evo.
(at first the disk didn't do a cold autoboot)

FMCB 1.8 and b tried.
Black screen, both USB ports.
(reboot possibility dissapeared form the button every time)
Some times only sub dir was accessible.

Fceu didn't start always, black screen also.
Once it started but couldn't access its own start media.

Then suddenly everything went like they should, and many times.

Intermittent usb problem seems to be the reason but it wont come up after this successful installation, or if it comes it's very rare.
