Yes, you need to use the ESR Patcher and you can find it in the ESR thread. Its quick and simple to use, just run the patching app, and in seconds, your ISO is patched and ready to burn to DVD.

Cogswap is like SwapMagic, you need to use a swap trick for it to work, but ESR is a 'swapless' method. Also note only DVDs are supported with ESR, no CDs. So for your CDs, you will still need to use CogSwap or SwapMagic.
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

is it possible to shrink the ps2 games, so we can put multiple ps2 games on a DVD disc for use with ESR?

You can make multiple game dvd's(i believe there are a few tuts on how to do it out there) you dont necesarily need to shrink games, since some of em are already "small" (2 gigs or less, half life, ICO, Marvel vrs capcom 2 just to name a few)

or he could convert the cd games to dvd and use ESR on them.
