Ok so I got FMCB installed today and it came with ESR. It's just there and I don't know if it's really configured correctly and what not..but I want to use it to play PS2 DVD backups.

So I backed up my game, and patched it with the ESR patcher thingie. Burned at 4x onto a DVD+R. Put the DVD into the ps2 and loaded up FMCB, then ESR. It won't detect the disk at all, and I keep hearing bubbly noises coming from the Ps2.

Am I doing this right? My ps2 is a fat ps2 (30001 version) and has no modchip or anything. If I can get the backup to load then I'll be set.

I'm getting the feeling that I need DVD-R's instead of +R's since it's an older model, but I just don't know yet. I just need to know if I need a different kind of DVD, or if I need to configure ESR, etc.

i havent had to do this myself because i always used -r's but i think you need to change the 'book type" to DVD-ROM..
BTW this should have been inthe ESR forum as its related to ESR not FMCB.... go do a search there for book type....

It doesnīt even relate to ESR, but to burning for old generation PS2s in general.
I believe, spud42 is right about the book-type.

If you donīt want to set the book-type, simply buy DVD-R (quality-brand) and re-burn it.
Keep in mind, that your PS2-Laser/Model is really old and maybe do not read "backups" at all.

It definitely can read backups. I saw a youtube video and the guy had the same model, and he played burned backups. I found the tutorial and shizzle, now I just have to try it.

Still,... What Iīve said is true.
Your laser/model is old and thus, it maybe wonīt read backups at all.
It has nothing (at least in your case) to do with the console-version, so yes your console-revision is able to read backups, but it depends in which condition your laser is.

True..I still want to try though. I've been waiting to do this for a very long time and it seems like everything just goes wrong when I try to do something.

I was thinking about ordering a new slim ps2 from amazon if this doesn't work, simply because this ps2 is old and because the new one might be able to read backups. It just bothers me so much that I might not be able to do this.

Try it, but keep in mind that avoiding all stress from your laser is the best thing you can do.
Even if you do not have a NWA, a USB-Drive and those games playable from them are worth to be played from there.
Itīs one way of preserving Laser-Livetime as long as possible.

If you try it, booktype your +Rs, or use -Rs and make a test-burn.
Hopefully, youīre sucessful in the end.

Keep in mind the newest PS2's will NOT WORK with FMCB. I have a V15 slim, and 2 old Fat ones with Net Adp. all you would need is a good IDE HDD for them.

Selling for a good price... DJ

It looks like I'm going to have to either buy some -R's or buy another ps2...preferably a used slim one. I just can't get any of this to work at all.

My DVD burner is unable to change booktypes, so that is out of the question.
