so, admittedly im a retard when it comes to this stuff, so who knows what i screwed up along the way. im using a fat ps2 scph-35001 ntsc. im using esr beta r9b now, was using esr beta r9 before and had same problem. i get the esr splash and then a black screen. no colors or flashing. my backup is on a sony dvd-r burned at x1. my origional is guitar hero III. i get the same result using either a burned copy or a regular ps2 game so i know its not just the speed at which i burned the dvd. ps2 worked fine before. with an origional CD type ps2 game esr goes from the splash to a pink screen and doesnt do anything else. i have tried running esr from ULE and from the ps2 browser screen where i set freemcboot to put ule, fmcb, and esr on the menu.
also, i did patch the burned game using esr disk patcher

Burn at 4x or slower and make sure you ripped your DVD based game correctly, from there use your ESR patcher to patch the game you just ripped and you should be good. I had to try my import title twice due to burn speed.

i had planned to burn it at a faster speed but anythign having to do with the burning is on the back burner as it wont load regular ps2 games. once i can get it to read regular games if im still having the problem ill take your suggestion into mind.

I've never used esr before, so someone correct me if i say something wrong.

But, why are you trying to load a regular game using esr? I believe that will fail? (Right?)
Can you load GH3 when not using esr?

No, if the original is from a different region it will fail but if it is same region as the console then it will be ok.

I realize ESR is used to play backups :-P

I was wondering why he was using ESR with an Original disk (GH3)

    Thanks nemesis, didn't know that.

because in some other forums people put that esr didnt work with burned games, but that esr loaded their regular game and did all the color flashes. i was trying to list as much info as in an attempt to get my problem fixed. additionally im not a "he", perhaps that is the whats causing my problem :P
