Easy disc check bypass
Easy disc check bypass –
When trying to install FreeMCBoot from a disc with disc checking, it can be difficult. It involves multiple swaps and needs to be timed accurately.
While my method does not bypass the multiswap, it does allow you more time to swap back to the modded disc.
When you swap between the original and modded, if the disc reads any part of the original ELF that you modded, uLaunchELF will not load, due to corruption in the system memory (partial read of original + partial read of modded = corrupt binary).
So we want to prevent the original disc from being read in that location by simply placing a piece of tape on the data side of the disc. This will of course cause the system to not be able to read the original disc's ELF file, giving you a chance to switch back to the modded disc. You still need to be fast to swap back to the original when it seeks towards the center (this is the disc check), but no longer need to worry about the corruption of the ELF in memory.
The trick is to watch the laser when it seeks to the ELF you modded, and then position a piece of tape in that location on the original disc, but not blocking the center of the disc so that it can still validate the disc.
As an example, here is a copy of Madden 09 that I used to install FreeMCBoot.
Note: Improper usage of the tape (such as allowing a piece to stick up off the disc, or using too thick of a tape) may cause damage to your PS2. Do this at your own risk.
