    Hi,
I get probs to install FMCB with that BootCD.It's a homebrew CD uses "Crazy Taxi" to boot and coming with a 64 MB USB stick.
On the cd are some tools
    1.save manager
    2.file manager
    3.elf launcher
    4.hex-editor
5.save-patcher(you can patch your mem-files with the codes from inet or you found with hex-editor)
    6.mp3 player
    7.jpeg viewer
8.internet updater, but service is down(one update is on the stickand start if the cd boot)

If I want to start the installer of FMCB or ulaunch I get a black screen and it seems to be that the cd use with the elf launcher the same memory ,like this progs.Memory conflict?!

Now my question. Is it not possible to copy the files manually without install prog,or what i must do additionally after copying the files?O.K.,now I know that the memcard ID will be needed.Anyone know an .elf read out this ID?

If anyone has any interest to find out which progs are on the cd,pls send me a pn and I will give you a download link.

    Greets,Tom!

    PS.:I have a SCPH-5004 V.9-11 Console and I dont want to swap.

do you have a psx game? if yes, then use the independence exploit (your model is compatible)
EDIT: you may have to swap if that doesn't work... sorry
EDIT2:whats the boot cd called, I have ultimate swap, swap magic, karioke revolution party with cogswap instead of the ddr ex demo...

try the install guides, and use the AR MAX tutorial. instead of launching the installer directly, use the FCE-Ultra route. well very probably work!

you can find the tutorial here : http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/en_armax.htm

    Hiya...

I've been looking at this Ultramem for a while now and after having ordered 3 ARMax EVOs which had no media player feature included, am now VERY tempteed to take a more in depth look at Ultramem. So am I right in understanding that the ARMax Tutorial will work in a similar way - just using Ultramem stick and disks in place of ARMax?!?

Or have I as usual, got it all belly up?

If I do need to get an ARMax with Media pl;ayer, is there any way of telling which have and don't have it? It seems these days that online shops don't know anyhing about their stock... If indeed they bother to reply at all!

    Thanks folks!

That should have worked, except for one slight hitch.
Apparently the reliability of the UltraMem tools is total crap...

Today I've made some experiments with it and while I was able to use the JPG viewer and some other features, that experience was in no way enjoyable. (The browser can only handle a single folder level, even on USB...) And worst of all is that its ELF launcher failed completely to launch either uLaunchELF or SMS, with both those attempts ending in the dreaded BSOD (black screen of death).

Or have I as usual, got it all belly up?
If it had worked as advertised, then you would have been right.

Given this situation my best advice to you is to use the free installation service of FMCB.

You will find the service thread as one of the 'sticky' threads at the top of the FMCB forum page. Read the first post of that thread thoroughly, and then get in touch with one of the service volunteers for your area.

I have a correction to make about the UltraMem functionality, which is not quite as limited as I described it in my previous post here, since I was then using it without having loaded the USB-based upgrade file.

With that upgrade file loaded it effectively replaces the disc-based program. Note that the upgrade file must be stored in the USB root as "ULTRAMEM.UPG", and that USB device has to be already inserted at disc boot time. And the USB device must be formatted to FAT16, since the drivers of this disc do not support FAT32.

The correction relative to my earlier report on this is only that the upgraded file browser does support multiple folder levels, and that the general design and usage of most functions is better. But there are still some odd limitations, including some unreliability in the gamepad detection, causing me to frequently have to press buttons repeatedly or for a longer than normal time in order for the program to respond.

And the worst limitation of all remains unchanged, as even the upgraded ELF launcher is still incapable of launching any of the homebrew elfs I have tried, including uLaunchELF, SMS, and InfoGB.

Trying to use UltraMem as the main bootsystem for a homebrew setup thus seems doomed to failure.

Dlanor... Thanks for your replies and info.

I think the free service you pointed out will ultimately be the best - or at least the more probable way to go. I'm just a little dissappointed I can't do it myself as I believe you can't copy the install from one PS2 memory card to another and the fact that I've broke or lost several cards over time doesn't help... Post pub football leagues and so on!!!

I'd also have like to do it as a sense of achievement - sounds odd, maybe geeky, but I like to figure things out and learn how things work. Yep... Geeky! Heheh.

I just get frustrated when sellers can't reply to queries on specs of products they are selling...

Thanks again for your help and advice... LD!

Can't you use the save manager function to make an independancy exploit which would be more than reliable to install fmcb ?

The solution to this is of course to have several MCs with FMCB installed on them. All it takes to do this is access to a good boot system and a good elf launcher, and FMCB comes with both (as uLaunchELF is part of every standard install). So once you have FMCB on one memory card you can easily boot uLaunchELF and use it to launch the FMCB installer, which allows you to install FMCB to as many cards as you please.

So while direct copying of an existing installation does not work, it is still very simple to duplicate the installations, though you do have to treat each new MC as a fresh install. But since you use the existing installation to start each new install that is not a problem.

I'd also have like to do it as a sense of achievement - sounds odd, maybe geeky, but I like to figure things out and learn how things work. Yep... Geeky! Heheh.
Personally I'd call that "Technically minded", but we can use your word if you prefer...

I just get frustrated when sellers can't reply to queries on specs of products they are selling...
In many cases they honestly can't help it, since most of them are definitely NOT technically minded.

Thanks again for your help and advice... LD!
It's always a pleasure to help others here, and hopefully it is just a matter of time before you get a chance to do the same for others yet again. It's a 'good circle of productivity'...

    Best regards: dlanor
