My cousin has a PS2 with FreeMcBoot I installer for him, he's only been using DVD games thus far, can Free McBoot load PSX games or dual layer PS2 games? I don't really want to waste a dual-layer trying with ESR Patcher.

No PSX-Games can only be started by swapping discs with blocked sensors.
PS2-CDs must either be converted to DVD, or also started through a Swap-Trick.
Yes, Dual-Layer/DVD9-Games work!or dual layer PS2 games? I don't really want to waste a dual-layer trying with ESR Patcher.
Either you only patch it with ESR-Patcher and set the correct Layer-Break-Position, or you patch it with ToxicDL-Patcher, then with ESR-Patcher and then burn it.
That's not entirely true. If I remember correctly, there was a PS1-disc equivalent of Swapmagic.
Not only that, but there is PSX-launcher that allows the user to boot a backup PS1 disc, as long as the user has an authentic PS1 disc of the correct region code to trick the console.
However, none of this can be done with just FMCB alone.

But all of these methods you mentioned are using exactly this method:
-swapping discs, with blocked sensors...
I did not said swapping at PS1-Logo, if you implied that into my post.
So yes,... As of now, it is still 'entirely true', what I said in my previous post. Heh,...![]()
Ah, thanks for the replies guys. No idea on the layer break so I'll try out Toxic Dual Layer patcher for the Dual Layer then.
So what exactly are my options with the PSX backups? I don't think either of us have a PS1 swap magic.. he might have a PS2 swap magic, but that wouldn't work? I don't think he'll mind if I have to install more stuff onto his memory card.
I have one more problem however, with a PS2 backup. It's an MDS and MDF file, and the ESR patcher isn't allowing me to select them for patching, can I convert these files into an ISO file somehow?
The way I would do this is to mount the MDS+MDF combination as a virtual DVD disc in Daemon-Tools, and then use "DVD Decrypter" to rip a fresh ISO file from the virtual DVD drive. But I think there are other ways too to convert the files into a proper ISO. (Which definitely is what you need.)
Best regards: dlanor
It should work, if you patch the MDF!
Just try to drag&drop it onto the exe.
