That could be true, even thought I did not see the logo (before the PS2 jumps back), when a modchip is installed and it has problems reading the disc...
Normally it goes to bsod (without logo) and then 'jumps back' to the 'inner browser' of the OSDSYS.
...atleast with those mod's, I tried it with. 
...but like I said,... It could be, since there are sooooo many different modchips available...
So my question was also to determine whether the OP's console has a modchip and whether a swap trick was used (Which in fact neither were used).
I can't see, how you come to the swap-trick-conclussion, but I see and understand your intention, because of the modchip.
That's true, but for a disc to turn bad after one run is quite... hard to happen. :X
