My codebreaker retail disc booted up the first time to copy FMCB to the mem card, but then after adding pelican.bin to the usb drive and rebooting. My PS2 sees the disc, but displays the 'Playstation' logo then reverts back to the PS2 Browser screen...

    Any ideas?

    Anybody...?

The mem card is blank according to the PS2 Browser, without flashdrive plugged in, the Codebreaker disc boots to the 'Playstation' logo then back to the browser?!?

I can hear it spinning and reading it during the logo screen, but then just goes back to Mem/Disc select screen. EACH TIME!

Previously used this Codebreaker disc for the independance exploit, and it worked ONCE last night, but now, nothing...

What is the model number of your console?
If I remember correctly, Codebreaker does not work properly (USB support doesn't work) with new consoles since the SCPH-75000 series.

Does your console have a modchip installed?
Is your codebreaker disc meant for your console (As in the region code)?
Have you tried cleaning your disc?

Lastly, it is possible that your console's laser is weakening. Have you tried cleaning the laser?

Oh, and when you mentioned the "Playstation" logo, I hope that you meant the "Playstation 2" logo and not the "Playstation" logo.
If you really intended to refer to the original Playstation's logo, then there's something very wrong....

    Thanks for the reply.

    Model SCPH-39001
    Both PS2 and codebreaker NTSC
    Disc's been cleaned
PS2's disassembled now to clean laser...

And, lol, ya I meant 'Playstation 2' logo comes up, then back to Browser screen. All other discs work perfectly except this Codebreaker disc and Rock Band 2... seems strange to me. I'm going to check/clean the laser and hopefully that will work, if only long enough to install FMCB/HDLoader.

    EDIT: And no modchip installed

    Thanks again and here's hoping...

Afaik, the 'Playstation2'-Logo only comes up, AFTER the MechaCon tested it for validity&region.

Lastly, it is possible that your console's laser is weakening. Have you tried cleaning the laser?
True, it could be... But I rather think, it has only problems with reading the CB-Disc, similar how the issues with some 'Swap Magic'-Discs are...

Btw.: Afaik, CB-Retail was only released in 'NTSC U/C'-Gameregion, but I don't know it for sure.
Well,... Let's hope the laser-cleaning helps the OP, to atleast start CB ONCE successfully, to install FMCB on his own...

That's true, and it can also true if the console has a modchip that fakes the region code (Even though the disc is not of the correct region code).

So my question was also to determine whether the OP's console has a modchip and whether a swap trick was used (Which in fact neither were used).

That's true, but for a disc to turn bad after one run is quite... hard to happen. :X

That could be true, even thought I did not see the logo (before the PS2 jumps back), when a modchip is installed and it has problems reading the disc...
Normally it goes to bsod (without logo) and then 'jumps back' to the 'inner browser' of the OSDSYS.
...atleast with those mod's, I tried it with.
...but like I said,... It could be, since there are sooooo many different modchips available...

So my question was also to determine whether the OP's console has a modchip and whether a swap trick was used (Which in fact neither were used).
I can't see, how you come to the swap-trick-conclussion, but I see and understand your intention, because of the modchip.

    STILL no luck

I noticed tho, if I tip the ps2 at a 45 degree angle then load the disc from the OSDSYS it occasionally works for this disc AND RB2... makes me think it is a laser issue, but again, no other discs have issues.

If nothing else, guess I can dig out my PS2 demo disc and do the swap trick to install FMCB.

Thx again y'all and im open to any other suggestions.

Do you here any odd sounds when the PS2 tries to read that disc (Especially a scrapping sound)?
If you hear a scrapping sound, you need to add tape to the inner hub (The transparent part near the centre) of the disc to give your PS2 better grip on that disc.

Otherwise, it might be like what TnA had said: Your disc has gone bad, and you should try to get an exchange/replacement if you wish to continue using that disc.

Negative with the tape trick too. I DO hear 'grinding' sounds while its trying to read the disc, but its not scratching the disc or anything.

I've got a friend bringing over his Phat PS2, if this disc works in his, and i can transfer to mem. card on it, FCMB will still boot on mine, correct?

    Thanks for the help.
