Can't access FMC Configurator
Can't access FMC Configurator –
01-22-2013,12:54 AM
Hello people!
I got a fat PS2 some time ago, with an exploited memory card. I've read about many homebrew apps that can be loaded to it and was especially interested in SMS, but after reading some tutorials I found that the configurator was missing. I visited a shop where they sell exploited MC and asked the guy how could I load another app to the memory card, and he said some installers modify the original FMCB configurator to prevent people from installing FMCBoot to other people by themselves, hence protecting their business.
So I'd like to know, is there a way to install SMS on my memory card, or even the whole original FMC with what I have?My console version is SCPH-50001. It has 2 USB slots in front, but no Ethernet port. When I turn it on with no disk loaded, a screen appears with ESR beta r9, so I guess that's the only application loaded. If I press L1+Up to access the Browser, the only options available are Browser, System Configuration and Launch Free McBoot. Browsing the MC shows a FMCB-CNF, BOOT and Free McBoot files.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Free McBoot is the exploit itself so if it's not already launched and you have an option to do so, then you need to do that. From within FMCB you should have access to uLaunchELF
As for Simple Media System, yes you just download SMS and copy the file to a USB thumb drive, stick it in the PS2, go into uLaunchELF browse mass:\ and highlight the SMS.ELF.
Press R1 to bring up the menu, select cut.
Now browse back and go to your memory card (MC0) with FMCB on it, go into the APPS folder (or anywhere really) and R1 to paste the SMS.ELF.
Now you can go into the FMCB settings by going into the SYS-CONFG folder (or something similar) on the root of your memory card and loading the FMCB config elf.
Find OSDYS settings and scroll through the menu listings until you find an empty one.
Select the appropriate path for the SMS.ELF executable by changing the empty space (it will let you browse and select it) then name the link.
Now you can go back and go down to the option for saving to MC0, so do that and then exit the FMCB settings.
When FMCB starts back up, you should see your newly added menu item, and upon selection it should load SMS.
Alternatively, after pasting SMS.ELF onto your memory card, you can launch it directly from there. I suppose you could even launch if from the USB thumb drive. The above method is a more "permanent" solution.

Thanx for the fast response!
Well it seems I'm missing something here
When I launch FMCB the only thing it does is load ESR br9. Is uLanchELF required to load ESR? Or can it be loaded automatically after FMCB starts? Because if it is required, I don't have any option to access it, and if it is not, then I think uLaunchELF is not even installed on my MC. And without an option to access FMCB Configurator, I can't install it or any other application

uLaunchELF is the homebrew that is used to install FMCB. Booting uLaunchELF for the first time is the hardest part about exploiting the PS2 memory card. If you don't have it, you won't be able to copy anything new to your already exploited memory card. If RandQalan's suggestion does not work, then you will have to figure how you want to get uLaunchELF booted on your PS2. You will need to download uLaunchELF and put the .ELF file onto a usb thumb drive, boot into uLauncherELF using one of a few methods, then copy it over to your memory card. If you do this, though, you should probably just perform a fresh install of FMCB while you are at it.

That can be true but FMCB has an emergency fix rename uLaunchELF to RESCUE.ELF on root of USB and have it in when you boot up PS2 should auto boot uLE and then you can use it to run FMCB configuration
