    I was under the impression you could only burn FreeMCBoot on CD and have it work, will it work if I burn it to a DVD and try to install HDLoader on my MC that way?

    I'm afraid my lens is dying and CD reading is not possible anymore I think

    yoshi, the PS2 contains 2 potentiometers, one for CDs one for DVDs. It could well be, that the DVD one is busted and the CD one isn't (btw, it's the same for me. On my fat PS2 i can not play any DVDs and usualy only PSX CDs work)

    EDIT: of course, it can also be the other way around, now that I read it again. Probably the DVD potentiometer usualy dies faster because a major share of the PS2 games are DVDs, therefore stressing the DVD pot.

    DVD should be no problemo, you do however need to have swapmagic or a modchip installed..

    Should I change anything in the system.cnf?

    BOOT2 = cdrom0:\FREE_MCBOOT.ELF;1
    VER = 1.00
    VMODE = NTSC/PAL

    should cdrom say dvdrom or something?

    NTSC OR PAL but it doesn't matter. ;]

    FMCB choose region for You.
    CDVDMAN (?) read only NTSC (because it's first string in above cnf)

    should cdrom say dvdrom or something?
    No, it's only one determination for ps2 drive.

    PS: You should using 8+3 file format in elf file name.

    8+3 means 8 characters in the file name and 3 in the extension. an example being 12345678.123

    or abcdefgh.ijk or any combination of letters or numbers.

    So I can have FREE_MCBOOT.ELF as MCBOOT.ELF only? Or does it have to be 8 letters?
