    @pseudodeed
I tested it and work for me very well. Try this with debug screens and tell me with colour screen program freeze.

Is there somebody who have same problem like pseudodeed?

How do you start an PS1 Titel?

I start Ulaunch with a cd and then put in 1 original PS1 Game and start the elf from Ulaunch.

It works for me with uLaunchELF and FMCB. Which version of uLE are you using? If it is v4.40 you can use it to run PS1 titles (select from Misc PS2CD/DVD).

With your elf now we can boot original PS1 Titel with FMCB. Thank you for this.
I have found out why i cant use yure elf. The problem was my mod chip when i disable it the elf works. I have found out when you copy the 2 folder (Video_ts Audio_ts) to the cd iso and burn the PS2 read without the mod chip (i mean not red screen) the cd and think it is a audio cd. I have test this with 10 games and it works. And the red screen dont come. But you can nott boot it with the elf. But you can boot it with the mod chip. I think this is a way to boot PS1 Backups without modchip. Can you modify your ELF? When start the elf without mod chip the ps2 boot new.

I think that is not possible. Maybe your modchip didn't turn off at all and you did't get red screen. Run uLE and try browse these cd's. If it can list files it should work with my elf. I don't have installed modchip in my PS2 and with that I can't help you.

I wrote simply programs what you wanted.
I just wanted to add my thanks for making these. They should prove quite handy.
To err is human. To really foul up requires a computer.

That is not the correct way to do it, since the normal launching of an elf file (from FileBrowser or a launch shortcut) is intended only for PS2 elf files.

The correct way to do it in uLE is to insert the disc in tray (with "Disc Control: ON" in config) and wait for the status message "Stop Disc == PS1 CD" to appear. Then you invoke "MISC/PS2Disc" either by FileBrowser or by a normal shortcut, to start the launch of that PS1 game in exactly the save way that the Sony OSDSYS would do it.

NB: The function name "PS2Disc" does not mean it is a function to launch "PS2 Discs" only.
Instead it means that it is a function to let the PS2 launch ANY discs it is capable of using.
And that naturally includes PS1 game discs as well. (We do have a problem with pure CD-Audio discs though)

Presumably a similar PS1 game launch is also what the new "psx.elf" files by belek666 do, but without the additional support for other disc types that uLE includes. And his elfs seem to work fine too, in the short tests I've made so far.

    Best regards: dlanor

    @ belek666

I have test the games on a PS2 with no mod chip only with fmcb and it works to. We can launch Original PS1 Titles with your ELF. And on this PS2 without mod chip (is a V5 PS2) i can not rund a PS1 backup. Maybe with some modifications on your elf.

    @dlanor

But I think the PSX.ELF is a good way to run a original PS1 title on the PS2 with FMCB or not?
Sorry I dont understand the problem. What do you mean with: "(We do have a problem with pure CD-Audio discs though)"

I have burn a short mini DVD movie with nero to a CD. When i put this cd in the PS2 with no mod chip and the PS2 think it is a Video CD/DVD and play the Video.
Can we patch a PS1 Title in the same way at the PS2 Title?

And why is not possible at the moment to run PS2 games on CD on the same way at the PS2 games on a DVD?

Yes, this is a good way.

It will do approximately the same thing for a PS1 game disc in tray as the uLE command "MISC/PS2Disc" would do, to launch that PS1 game.

Sorry I dont understand the problem. What do you mean with: "(We do have a problem with pure CD-Audio discs though)"
That is not related to the "PSX.ELF" program, but to the implementation of the "MISC/PS2Disc" command of uLE. This command is really intended to be able to handle all disc types that the original OSDSYS of Sony can handle, but we fail to do this properly for a CD-Audio disc, as there is no way for an external program to launch the internal CD-Audio player. So for attempts to use MISC/PS2Disc with a CD-Audio disc in tray, uLE can only display an error message.

That is all I meant about there being a problem with CD-Audio discs.

For such cases the best thing to do is to instead use the uLE command "MISC/PS2Browser", and then manually select the CD disc icon in the Sony browser, and use this to start the CD-Audio player, which then works fine (even through FMCB).

I have burn a short mini DVD movie with nero to a CD. When i put this cd in the PS2 with no mod chip and the PS2 think it is a Video CD/DVD and play the Video.
Can we patch a PS1 Title in the same way at the PS2 Title?
No. There is no patch method available to make an unmodded PS2 console accept a PS1 burned backup disc.

The only way to do this at present is by so-called disc-swapping methods, with blocked disc sensors. And personally I have chosen never to do this. It can be harmful both to the console and to those discs.

And why is not possible at the moment to run PS2 games on CD on the same way at the PS2 games on a DVD?
    The reason is very simple.

The CDVD mechacon is the chip which decides if access to a specific disc is to be permitted or not. This chip is 'stupid' enough to believe that any DVD disc which has a UDF filesystem that 'looks' like that for a genuine DVD-Video disc is in fact such a disc, even if the ISO9660 filesystem contains contradictory material.

So the ESR patcher places a dummy DVD-Video UDF directory on the disc, to fool the mechacon chip, which then permits other software of the PS2 to access the disc. And to this other software the disc appears to be a genuine PS2 game disc, in part thanks to the active ESR driver.

But applying the same principle to a CD disc is completely impossible, as the mechacon is not 'stupid' enough to believe that a CD disc can be a valid DVD-Video movie disc, as that is strictly impossible. The basic media type is wrong, and no patch can hide that.

It would theoretically be possible to apply another similar patch principle based on the CD-Audio format instead, and that technique has been used to make burned CDs readable to an unmodded PS2 in the past (SMS still supports this format).

But this method is completely useless for running games, as it contains no error correction whatsoever for the read data, and perfectly error-free CDVD reading does not exist. All safe usage of CD and DVD discs relies heavily on active error correction of both single-bit and dual-bit errors which are bound to occur. And with read retries for all sectors read with worse (and thus uncorrectable) errors. But when reading CD-Audio discs all of those abilities are lost, which may be acceptable for a media player, such as SMS, where such bit errors merely cause a temporary glitch in the audio or video rendering, but for an executable program almost every bit error ensures a software crash.

And that is why we can't use burned CDs by methods similar to how we use burned DVDs with ESR.

    Best regards: dlanor
