Best noob set up –
07-05-2008,08:53 AM
Hey everyone,
I personally use a fat PS2 with a HD and the old ps1 trigger disc method of booting, naturally I'm going to change over to free vast as it seem a load easier and would let me dump burned games to the HD without having to hook up to my PC...
My real question is what would be the best simple setup to use on my girlfriends slim? I mean what's the best/ most stable version of freevast? what version of ESR to use? from what I've read I can set it up so that if she held a button down it'd launch the ESR .elf direct? Is that right?? I can patch the games for her no problems I'd just like to know what the experts think the best setup is
Thanks alot!

Currently ALL Free McBoot versions are in the BETA versions and are releases to help with developement of a stable release suited for everyone to use with ease.
The best way right now is to install with a BOOT.ELF {uLaunchelf is best for beginners and expert alike} and run the Configurator.elf or {if you know how to} edit the installed CNF in the FMCB folder that is installed.
From there you can assign what ever apps you want to any buttons. Its really up to you on whats best, i can only suggest using the most current apps available.
As for ESR and whats the best working setup, i can only suggest reading thru the bug reports and what others have experienced using it as this is all still a "work-in-progress" and bugs are still being worked out.
PS2 Consoles:

SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
