normally ulaunch will be installed as BOOT.ELF and will be started.
With ulaunch you can start other *.ELF Files from usb, mc, and hdd
so just put esr on an usb stick and start it via ulaunch![]()
thx for the answer but i am a complete noob i am not sure wut boot.elf is
so how do i start esr on ps2 using ulaunch
Then your first important lesson is to learn that "boot.elf" must NEVER be confused with "BOOT.ELF"...
In PS2 filesystems character casing is always significant, so if you use the wrong character case for a filename, programs looking for the file will fail to find it. In the case of a "BOOT.ELF" misnamed as "boot.elf" this means that the console will not boot correctly.
First off, don't call it "ulaunch". The proper name is "uLaunchELF" and its proper abbreviation is "uLE".so how do i start esr on ps2 using ulaunch
In uLE there are mainly two different ways of launching programs. One is to use the uLE FileBrowser to find the program on any PS2 device (HDD, USB, CDVD, MC) and simply select it and launch it that way. A more popular method is to use the configuration menu of uLE to define a gamepad shortcut button to be used for launching the program (again using the browser to select the program). You can define up to 11 different shortcuts by that method, so this should cover most of your needs.
In your earlier post you finished with this line:
No, FMCB is not in any way connected to backup games. It is purely a boot method for homebrew software and nothing else. But that is exactly what you need to gain control of your console for any purpose whatever, including the running of backup games.and isnt fmcb lets me to play back up games? why do i need esr and ulaunch
You need ESR, because that is the program that allows an unmodified PS2/PStwo to run games burned on DVD-R discs, which the console normally refuses to do.
You need uLE because that program allows you to manage all your homebrew stuff (and also to handle gamesave backups on other media than MC).
Both uLE and ESR can be installed to your memory card as part of the FMCB installation process, though you will have to put the proper files into the FMCB installation folder before making the installation. The FMCB installer will then copy them into the proper MC locations, so you can boot up uLE or ESR later.
I'd advise you to wait for the new FMCB release though, to avoid problems updating from the current v1.5 to the new version (to be released any day now).

"Both uLE and ESR can be installed to your memory card as part of the FMCB installation process, though you will have to put the proper files into the FMCB installation folder before making the installation."
I know how to boot fmcb installer from the guide. i am guessing wut u mentioned is something u have to do before booting the installer. can u give me more details on wut u just said?
I just had a quick look at that page, and saw immediately that it describes one of the alternate boot methods using methods similar to FMCB (same tools), but different from the standard installs (as it uses the MC folder "BxEXEC-DVDPLAYER" instead of "BxEXEC-SYSTEM"). I strongly recommend using the standard install instead, as that is the only one for which you can expect any future support.
You don't have to search for tutorials on other sites, as there is a special thread for such right here in this FreeVAST subforum. It's very easy to find as it's one of the 'sticky' threads at the top of the forum page. In the very first post of that thread you will find a link to a multilingual collection of FMCB installation tutorials.
This is not the right place to make yet another tutorial. And the description would have to be slightly different for the old FMCB v1.5 and the upcoming release (based on the current v1.6 beta). For FMCB v1.5 just read the tutorials in the thread I mentioned above, and I'm sure you'll manage. And for the next version I think the 'readme' that comes with it should be enough."Both uLE and ESR can be installed to your memory card as part of the FMCB installation process, though you will have to put the proper files into the FMCB installation folder before making the installation."
