I have an NTSC 700012 console, and the laser still seems to work fine. I've had it for almost 7 years I think. My burned back-up discs seem to work fine (that is, the DVD-Rs, not the +Rs).

chessplayer to tell compare the laser eye to these two pictures please.

    pvrw802..jpg PVRW-802

    spu3170.jpg SPU-3170

note the difference of the cover around the eye of the laser.

Could someone else with a 70000 or 75000 tell me if he has used fmcb on his console and if anything has happened to his laser and which of the two types of laser above he has.
    Thank you in advance.

I think you schould want to know for the "fixed" laser-version of PS2, or if you need the summ0ne-fix.....

    I have a 70004 PAL.
Yesterday i search more than 2 hours if i need the summ0ne fix. Some says in the "v13" you donīt need a fix anymore, some says there donīt exist a "v13" its only a newer "v12"....

So all what i find is, if the "modem" connecor doesnt exist in back of PS2, and the "warranty seal" is now "underside" (on a screw), the board is a "GH-032-xxx" and the resistors are "01D" then it have already the "fix" inside.

So mine has these all, so i let it.....

I donīt play with DVDīs.... (SMB & USB). But i burned 5-6 CDīs and DVDīs to test something (LINUX & co) and my laser reads......

it takes some time to happen. and after version 13 the coils burning problem has been fixed on the mobo circuits (bigger resistor values, auto muting rs2004fs when mechaon crashes etc) however even when these coil problems are fixed by a fix on v12 or by mobo circuits improvement on v13 v14 if you have the spu3170 laser the diode still gets burnt when playing copies. that's why i am asking which laser your v12-14 ps2 has and what happened to it after using fmcb for some time. Thank you.

I donīt know, but maybe on a v12 it depends what fix u use....

I have read lot times that a fix on v12 is a must !!
And i read too that there exist an "diode"-fix, that corrently donīt works and the laser burns......
The only fix who works 99% is the "summ0ne-fix" (with the resistor)......

ok but as i sai even with a fix if you have the spu lens the laser diode burns-at least with a chip. That's why i am asking someone who used fmcb on his v12-14 and has the spu laser above to prove me wrong. because i want to put fmcb on a v14 with the spu and i want to know if someone has done it without burning his spu3170.

I believe my laser is the top one (PVRW-802). My laser still works fine, and I love my backups!
