Well guys I forgot to post I sent 5 MC's out on Monday...
And Mailed out 2 more today...
You all should have them, or will have them soon..
As I understand the reason why cross region compatibility doesn't work is because of the need to use a DVDPLAYER.ELF corresponding to the System BIOS region to load a custom OSDSYS. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the actual boot procedure before the loading of the ELF file is the same for all regions? Hence why it's possible to create a "dual region" memory card by renaming a folder then doing another install and swapping the folders as necessary.
With this in mind, is it at all possible that given the BIOS and ELF from an NTSC system the necessary files could be generated and copied to the memory card? I understand that a FMCB card cannot be made this way initially, but I assume this is because it is necessary to sign the boot files in some way.
If you (or someone else) could give me a technical explanation in the case this isn't possible I'd be equally as satisfied. I'll admit I haven't looked very thoroughly but I haven't been able to easily find any documentation on how the exploit works exactly.
It would of course be different if we had own source code for the entire encryption/decryption and file signing process, but we never had that and probably never will.
Only in theory, assuming access to information and source code we currently lack.Quote:

That is correct, and this is done by use of built in ROM routines which do it the correct way only for its specific region.Quote:

So having a file with the wanted bios data in it is not enough. We need to run it, and that can't be done in a console of another region without physically disconnecting its original ROMs.
I think I've given you the highlights on why we can't do it yet above.Quote:

It is not the sort of thing the average user has any interest in, and it takes a pretty good knowledge of programming and cryptography to understand it at all, which the average user simply doesn't possess. So that's one reason why there aren't more discussions on that topic.Quote:

Another complication is that there have been several attempts by commercial interests to 'hijack' the entire project, which is the main reason why its sources are not fully open. (They are available only to trusted scene members/contributors, but not to strangers.)
Further discussion of these matters should be held elsewhere, as they are seriously off-topic in this thread.

If I understand correctly what you are saying is although it is possible for a FMCB card to boot a system of any region, it's only currently possible to generate the payload for a certain region on a system of that region due to the lack of exact knowledge of Sony's crypto functions. With the age of the console I didn't expect such a strong trusted path but I guess I only have the original xbox to compare it to which failed on so many levels
I'm satisfied with the explanation and understand the complications involved in the release of any exploit, specifically one that still has commercial value.
I sent my card to Erak and it was very fast, and he was also very helpful.
Thanks TehJawknee i got my cards last tuesday but i didnt have any real time to messed around with them until today.
Got My MC today. Trying to get everything to work. Thanks for the install DJ Flex!
i just got my MC today.everything works perfectly! thank you very much Djflexmaster for the install and your excellent work!
