Hi i tried installing freemcboot on a fat ps2 and put the memory card in a slim ps2 and it didn't work although it does work on the fat ps2.
What do i need to do to be able to install freemcboot on a fat ps2 for a slim ps2 or does it have to be done directly on the slim ps2
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance ;)
You must do a multi-version install insted of a normal install ;)!
The normal install works only in the model where you install it, multi-version in all models of it area code (ex in a 50004 it will works in all XXXX4)...
doing multi-version install gives an error on osd fat or something like that how do i solve this.
What kind of error?
Does it "hang"/stop for some time, or what do you mean?
it actually says error on osd fat on screen it doesn't hang or stop
please could someone point me to a tutorial on a multi version install or help me solve this problem

Try to format your memory card before installing again. Make sure you've backed up your saves if you have any on that card before doing so. That error came up with one of my cards and formatting the card solved the issue for me.
do you have an original memory card, or some third-party one? some of them fail on osd-validation step.

I have a fat PS2 with Free MCBoot installed as normal; how do I get it installed on to a seperate card to run on the slim?
I'm thinking stick install files on USB stick, run ulaunchelf from fat, launch the installer, then.... how can I choose to install to the 2nd card and not overwrite the card I'm running the installer from? Or can I overwrite that card with a multiboot install? And then copy the complete data from that card to a second card?
EDIT: ok, I just ran the installer and hit the multi install option, must've overwritten the first card, still dunno how to copy things to the second... anyway, end result, the slim boots FreeMcBoot but the splash and ulaunchelf are all black n white :|
EDIT 2: wooooooooot my first esr game loaded fine! same one that's been lying around for ages after not working in mmy fat. and it's in colour. now to burn something more interesting than kill zone :d
answers to original question would be nice though. can i just remove memory card 1 whilst at the freemcb install prompt, then stick in a seperate card? and what's with the black n white issue? scph-75003 fwiw.
edit 3 black n white was ntsc mode being enabled on my pal tv - ulaunchelf, configure, screen settings, tvmod > pal solved it :)

Yes, you can overwrite it with Multi-Install (not Multi-Boot...).Quote:

2Reasons.
First off,... The installed files are signed to your unique MemoryCard-Hardware-ID.
2nd.: For Multi-Install, it uses the cross-linking-trick.
The resulted "copied files" will be much bigger.

But still not as simple as starting FMCB from SLOT2. ^^
Also it is some kind of "hot-plugging", which couldn't be the best choice (even, if the MC isn't accessed due the time, when the MCs are switched.).
