I do not have another one.
Isn't there someone you can borrow one from? Or you can buy a cheap 8gb pendrive to test with. Sandisk sells Cruzers for about $16.

With each post it definitely sounds like your HDD is not compatible, also, by experience all the 2.5" form factor HDDs (That I have tried) hate my PS2 (75001 Slim). However they work fine with a Wii for example so it may or may not be just a compatibility issue.
Your HDD only has 1 USB connection and being selfpowered I just don't see it as being more useful than a big USB flash drive (thumbdrive, usb stick, whatever you want to call it).
I would advice you to get an IDE HDD and an USB Enclosure for it if you want to use OPL over USB, else, your current HDD should be able to be used with OPL over SMB.
I have read that SATA HDDs with USB enclosure aren't that compatible either, stick with IDE for IMO.
The gateway problem...
Start OPL and go to network configuration, if you use a crossover cable, hub or swtich your configuration should be as follows.
Which is the deafult configuration of OPL, this will only change if there's a router involved and you would have to change some ocets to make it work but not your case.
Share Name: PS2SMB
NETWORK START UP: off
On your PC
Now let's configure the IP manually to avoid windows going haywire for some reason, double click on your network icon, click on properties and on the list of elements there find the one that says "internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" double click or select it and click properties, on the windows that pops up change the option from "automatically get an IP" to "specify an IP" here enter
Restart if needed, when back into windows I would advice you to format your HDD with USB extreme, works just fine for me. After this use USBUtil 2.0 by ISEKO (2.1 Has some annoying bugs, not recommended) and install your games directly to your HDD, defrag your HDD with "power defragmenter" using "power mode".
GW:Leave it blank
Enable Simple File Sharing
Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View Tab and at the bottom you will see the option "Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended)", thick the little box and press OK.
Setting up your Share
After all this, we are close to testing it with your PS2, click on your "My Computer" and select your "PS2" HDD, right click it and select "properties" go to the "share" tab and simply click the warning text, you will be presented with some options next, thick the option that says to "share this folder on the network" put "PS2SMB" as the share name, after this everything should be set up, turn on your PS2 and try OPL over SMB.
If for some reason didn't work post back here so that we continue to figure out what is wrong.

white screen in OPL
black screen in usb advance
This is a double USB to miniUSB cable which is required on most laptops to make an usb hdd work properly. It supplies power from 2 ports and maybe will help in your case
This usb HDD works fine on the laptop, and used to work fine on the ps2(fine as in, not making it freeze at least)
I do not believe this will solve my problem, and I don't even know where i would find one @_@
I think I'm just gonna use my friends burner to burn the DVDs... is it possible to play them with just my soft modded freemcboot ps2?
The sensors are off, but idk if that means much...
