i'm a noob to hacking, just recently opened up my ps2, did the sensors trick, agent under fire swap, installed free mcboot and whatnot to get open ps2 loader eventually.

    I have installed no modchip

Used usbutil to install persona 3, and 4 to what i believe to be a properly formatted hard drive... it says 164 gb even though i only partitioned it to be 34 gb

164mb is the same size as my main partition.

It recognizes the games, but when attempting to play...

in v.0.6 it freezes on first yellow screen for P3, and the same for p4

in v.0.5 persona 3 goes past the colored screens, but stops on black. And p4 stops on a white screen.

i just downloaded the elf files and launched them from ulaunch put them in, was there anything else i needed to do?

i also tried this rev234 thing i found on 4shared, but both get yellow screens.

What have i done wrong? T_T ive come across so much hassle with this.. someone halp meh

    Sorry if im too noob..

There is something wrong here... if you have partitioned and formatted it as a 34GB drive, it should not show 164GB.

EDIT: There is also something else wrong here! There IS no such thing as a 164GB drive!! The only sizes I am aware of that are close to 164GB are 160GB and 200GB... so please make sure that your HDD is setup and powered properly before installing games/running OPL!!

I think that you better resolve this issue first... as it could be a root of other problems.

I think that you should partition the whole disk to use the whole drive(Instead of 34GB), and format it as FAT32(NTFS is not supported).

in v.0.6 it freezes on first yellow screen for P3, and the same for p4

in v.0.5 persona 3 goes past the colored screens, but stops on black. And p4 stops on a white screen.
I have this problem too, but it affects all of my games(Even games that USBAdvance and PS2ESDK can run faultlessly).

However, your problem may be different from mine, so please try to sort out your HDD first before reaching a conclusion.

Above all, remember to defragment your disk before running OPL 0.6!! Even 1% of file fragmentation is unacceptable to OPL!!

i just downloaded the elf files and launched them from ulaunch put them in, was there anything else i needed to do?
If you can already launch OPL, I don't think you need to do anything else to your PS2 setup.

At most, you may need to re-partition and re-format your HDD.
If there are bad sectors on your HDD, then you need to replace it before running OPL.

    BTW: Welcome to PSX-scene!

SP193 I think he wanted to say that he reallocated some space to a new partition which he assigned to be 34GB. And when I started reading your post I must say that I agreed first with the size of the drive but when I stared thinking - 164 + 34 = 198GB and when we assume that he *maybe* is a little bit wrong with the digits (you know - I know a lot of people who think that 1,000,000kb are 1gb) maybe he has got a 200GB drive. My experience is that after formating the available space is about 93% of the stated by manufacturer so approx. 186GB ...anyway... I should stop calculating :P
I think that your problem is the way you've partitioned your drive! Can you tell me how many partitions you have on your drive and some more info about them - if and which of them are active, etc...
In fact I'm just thinking - have you tried to install the games on the main partition (if it's FAT32) - just to test? Also how *exactly* do you *install* your games on the HDD and have you defraged your HDD before trying the games - as SP193 stated - *ANY* fragmentation of the files (those files which represent your game on the drive) on you your HDD is a problem for OPL for sure?

So, why don't you try this:
Use USBUtil and transfer your game to the main partition (to say it again, it *must* be FAT32), than use powerdefragmenter 3 to do the TriplePass Defragment™ and than try booting the game with OPL... and my suggestion is to use the current revision - 243 which is way better than the 234 which you're trying... which in fact (as you said) is downloaded from 4shared and you can't be sure that it's working properly!

Have you tried some combinations with the compatability modes? Try 1+3 if OPL 0.6 used and 1+3+6 if currect rev.

    ...and welcome to the community

Yes, sorry... it is a partition.

It is a 320 gb toshiba, the three partitions are...

Main: 164gb FAT32 Format(I could of swore it was NTFS however, the files inside are still safe though)
    WBFS: 100gb WBFS Format(Wii games)
    Ps2: 164gb(trying to make 34gb)

All are used very often, and the older ones still function properly(Though recently brawl has been getting disc read errors despite no disc, but that is most likely due to the brawl minus build)

I used USB advance to format... i thought it had to be a special format like the wii. This may explain why usb advance did not recognize the games since it seems to only recognize one drive, whereas OPL seems to recognize them all(i know through usb flash drive and hdd being plugged in at once)

I also did not defrag the disc, but I did defrag a copy of p3. No difference, however...

I will try that though if it just needs to be fat32.

I've heard of similar problems using usbadvances formatting tool...

Thanks for the help! I really was expecting simple "hurr durr post count" replies like on gbatemp, but you guys are really helpful!
    Will be back soon

Edit: I've now deleted the old partition, everything seems to have snapped back to appropriate size after a simple resize, I will attempt to use the main partition now.

    WISH ME LUCK!

And thanks for the welcome... looking into that triplepass thing.

Gee, now the ps2 freezes when i plug in the usb drive :G

I didn't do the triple pass thing, though... guess i need to lol

It did that at first before, too. I forget why it got fixed...

    Edit: NOTHING RECOGNIZES IT!

    Only pc

The wii no longer recognizes wbfs drive...

    Edit: and i actually have 243, sorry. mix-up :G

I reformatted everything, and now the ps2 won't even find the usb games after i put them back in...! T_T
    It doesn't freeze anymore, however.

Edit2: Recognizes them now, but still stuck on yellow screen!

I also got a "Delayed write failed" error a few seconds after unhooking the usb drive too...

USB advance goes to a black screen.

    What is ps2edsk?

Anyone know a good test game?

    good as in

    Old, so no anti-piracy measures
    small
    rarely doesn't work

My friend has a large library of legit ps2 games, but he doesn't want me taking too many and i dont know how big some are...

I've pretty much given up on getting usb to work, especially since SMB seems to be a better way to go... but it keeps freezing on the number 1 in the countdown

My connection goes through, but it still stays frozen on one(i can still navigate menu though)

I've used both port 445, and 139 to no avail.

    ps2 side:

    ip: 192.168.0.10
    mask: 255.255.255.0
    gw:192.168.0.1

    pc side:

    ip: 192.168.0.2
    port: 445
    Share Name: PS2SMB
    NETWORK SU: off

Edit: Also, using direct crossover from ps2 to laptop.

    v.0,5 crashes completely on 1.
    v 0.6 hangs on 1(can navigate)
and v 0.6 rev 243 speeds down to 2 and crashes

Change your PS2 Gateway to 192.168.0.2

EDIT: When playing over USB most of the problems occur due to a fragmented HDD, always defragment your HDD after installing new games on it.

Well, I don't think that OPL supports multiple partitions, hence you must have only 1 partition on your USB disk that is active and is FAT32 formatted.

I don't know if OPL supports huge disks(Disks> 137GB).... but a delay write failure isn't a good sign.

Data would be lost/corrupted during a delayed write failure because data that was not written to the disk(But should have been) will be lost.

Before unplugging a USB disk(Especially a HDD), always use the "Safely remove USB device" window to eject it first!! Windows NT(2000 and XP are also Windows NT builds) would always do caching on HDDs, and that data needs to be flushed(Written) before the device is removed!! This may be why you are getting "Delayed Write Failure" errors when you unplug your device

About PS2ESDL(There is a rather outdated thread in this forum):
PS2ESDL is the USB disk game loader written by me, long before OPL was created. It isn't available to the public(Under closed-beta testing now), due to many great stalls in development(Especially in June 2009-January 2010).

I continued developing it, because I didn't want my great effort(Since march/April 2009!) to go to waste.

Not to mention that OPL never worked once with my new USB case(Because OPL doesn't like it).
I'm not changing the case again because I've already changed it twice, and the HDD is quite small(Not getting a new one either!).

Anyway, OPL does seem to have incompatibilities with some USB devices(E.g. Kingston USB disks), and it definately doesn't support disks with a sector size of 4096 bytes.

I get a white screen for pre-0.6 OPL builds, and a yellow screen for OPL 0.6 all the time.
