so i got this rare game (wrestle kingdom-jp),and it was a .mdf file,so to use it on opl i converted it to .iso by using Ultraiso,i tried the game with SMB it gives a few colors then gets stuck on a white screen,my question is is the game incompatible or did the mdf to iso conversion have something to do with this?i'm using opl 0.8 via SMB,i've already searched the compatibility list with no answer

Did you read the forum rules?

it gives a few colors then gets stuck on a white screen
This normally means you've got a bad rip.

did the mdf to iso conversion have something to do with this?
Most probably. Or the MDF image was already defective.
Just buy the game and make a clean rip, you won't get help here with pirated games.

    I guess, it is a CD-Game...
    Just a tip,...

You need to convert it to a Mode1-DVD-ISO.

PS2-CDs (with Mode2 Level1) can be easily converted to Standard-ISO (with Mode1 Level1), by IMGBurn.

    1. You need to have the PS2-CD you want to create a PS2-DVD out of, in the drive.
    2. Start IMGBurn, select the read-tab and select the output-type to be ISO.
    3. Start reading and IMGBurn will request, if you want to convert it to a Mode1-Level1-ISO (answer YES!).

I guess this also might work for converting PS2-CDs to PS2-DVDs for ESR, but I'm not sure...

    @No.47: Rules relaxed a bit.
As long as no-one attaches copyrighted stuff here, spam ads, credid-card-dumps, have a 'shady attitude' and so on... it is o.k.

That is not a recommended tool for handling PS2 ISO files.
It might still have done the job correctly, but I wouldn't bet on it.

For weird formats like that I often try to mount the virtual image using Daemon-Tools, and then rip an ISO from the virtual drive using "DVD Decrypter" (the top recommended tool for ISO ripping).

i tried the game with SMB it gives a few colors then gets stuck on a white screen,
White screen usually means some basic problem accessing the image file. I'm not sure if this would be due to a bad conversion or to bad SMB fileshare permissions, which is the most common reason for such problems when using SMB.

Sometimes when you just add a new ISO file into the existing CD or DVD folders of OPL, the new file does not 'adopt' the standard share permissions of the folder it is put in. So you can have a collection of files all with different share permissions, some of which may not work with your OPL settings. Such results will probably vary depending on whether you use anonymous or passworded SMB login for OPL.

I don't understand why that would be needed.

OPL supports both CD and DVD games, both when used as straight ISOs (in CD and DVD folders respectively) and when installed by USBUtil (which has settings for both CD and DVD). And I have myself used all these methods, and currently have several PS2-standard CD ISOs installed, which work fine. And these are definitely Mode2 CD ISOs (as checked by IsoBuster).

Conversion from CD to DVD format should only be needed for using a game with ESR, which needs this because the ESR method only works for DVD discs.

Are you 100% certain about that?

When I am in IMG-Burn and try to create an ISO-File from a Mode2-Disc, it asks me if IMG-Burn should convert it to a Mode1-ISO and that works for me in various cases:

    -DVD-Conversion for ESR
    -CD-ISOs [in Mode1] for OPL and CD-Folder
    PS2 V7/DMS3 V2 (FW:2.4b7); Seagate Baracuda 200GB

    @TnA:
You may well be right about most CD mode conversions for ISO files producing Mode1 images.
But I just tested some of my CD ISOs for OPL with IsoBuster again, and it reports their track as "Mode 2 Form 1".

And I tend to trust IsoBuster, when it comes to CDVD format analysis.

Unlike most others it even shows both the game and the dummy video stuff of an ESR disc, as it is able to show multiple filesystems on the same disc independently.

But if it is lying about these CD ISOs I may of course have to reconsider my regard for it.

    Guess what?
The weird thing is, that I also was quite sure that I had Mode2Form1-ISOs back then when they (OPL-DEVs) told me 'no OPL only supports Mode1-Images'.

Yepp, ISO-Buster is a supperb tool for reading all kind of files&filesystems or tracks, or sessions... either from image, or from disc.

I'm also not sure how all that is matching together (Images which are reported to be Mode2Level1 work on an application, which is supposed to support Mode1Level1-Images).

I believe that I might have an explanation for why some "Mode 2 Form 1" ISO9660 filesystems seems like "Mode 1" filesystems.

Actually, ISO9660 Mode 1/2048 has 2352-byte physical sectors with 2048 bytes of each sector used for user data.

Most "Mode 1" ISO9660 disc images nowadays omit the checksum regions and hence only have the data region.

The Mode 2/Form 1 ISO9660 filesystem is similar to the Mode 1 ISO9660 filesystem, but the checksum fields were in different places (And I think that some of the reserved bytes were turned into additional checksum fields).

The CUE sheet that belongs to the disc image will tell the disc burning software the disc image's true format and as well as additional layout information.
Without the CUE sheet, the program has to attempt to predict the format of the disc image and might predict it incorrectly.

So as long as the disc image only has 2048-byte data regions and stored no other data, OPL and PS2ESDL should accept them.
