Using OPL with Custom Guitar Hero III games

I'm waiting on my hdd to arrive so I put a couple of customs on USB. They run for the most part but sometime the audio will get stuck or in one song or during a song a noise will repeat the whole song. I've ripped them 3 times and tried installing using 3 different ways but the results are the same (same songs and everything). I'm positive this does not happen when using the discs on a ps2 slim with swapmagic. Will it go away on a hdd?

Edit: Just noticed that my games were under 4gb so I renamed them appropriately as an iso and put them on the drive and now no more audio problems. What is it about ul install and iso2opl that could cause the audio to not work correctly yet as an iso run just fine? Does winhiip install the iso as it is or will it "break it up" like ul install on the internal hdd?

audio issues happen because of the slow data transfer rate usb has. it will not happen on hdd. winhiip extracts the contents of the ISO and put them in a specially formatted partition, so these are the raw files, not a container in any way

But when moving the full ISO over no audio issues from usb. It's odd that "putting it in a container" causes audio issues. Essentially it will be laid out on the hard drive like an ISO with IOP, MUSIC, MOVIES, etc folders? I just hope I don't experience these problems with internal hdd as I did when using ul_install or iso2opl for usb.

Yes, except you won't be able to touch (or even have access to) any of the data in the HDD unless using some highly risky pc software or some hacked version of uLE, which isn't recommended. Remember we are talking about game partitions (commonly referred to HDL partitions), not system partitions (__boot, __system, etc) or user created partitions (all of which have a "+" sign in front of the name).

You won't. HDD has the highest compatibility rate of all of the booting methods (without counting actual game discs, that is), mainly because there's only one way to install the games. And because of data transfer rates.

Not soo odd, when you use the container, you have more processing power being used from the IO Processor to handle disc access. You have to understand that the game need a steady flow of data, which is at least two times the speed a USB 1.1 port can supply, additionally, the USB driver robs from the game important memory and processor time resources which will surely reduce the quality of the game experience.


The reason the container format exists is to allow one to split a game into chunks smaller than the 2GB limit imposed for file size on FAT32 partition system.
