    hello again everyone.

    Viewtiful Joe SLUS 20929

im using uisbutil 2.0 with the 2.1 updated dnas pack... well on the list of "some games tested" in usbutil it reads this note for viewtiful joe 2...

Viewtiful Joe 2 NTSC USBUtil Pack DNAS V2.0 YES

i have no idea what this really means but i cant seem to find a version of usbutil with dnas pack version 2.00.

playing games of course using OPL 0.7 and usbadvance

well i'm installing the game using usbutil 2.0 english with update 2.1 dnas pack... and it's not working... installed directly from disk in drive gave me stuck at green screen on opl0.7... trying to install from iso image stuck at white screen on opl 0.7... which is strange... stuck at 2 different colors for 2 different install methods.

i know the routine of installing and defragging very well... of course i did that. i think it has to do with the version of usbutil im using... but i have no idea where to find the one with dnas pack version 2.0

or if you have any other ideas why it's not working. im all ears

    thank you

hey sorry to double post. but i noticed in the past week that the game has been marked red on the old usbadvance list (obviously in response to this thread).

well i figured it out and the game does work in usbadvance. it needed the ioprp file patch (as that was the only file to patch). this must have been what the special note had meant when it mistakenly said "something" about dnas version2.0...

the game does in fact work with usbadvance. you could put it back on the usbadvance list as working but to patch the IOPRP file with usbutil 2.0...

i have just now played up to the first save point and everything works perfectly. and just reset my ps2 and loaded that save point... jo must go on. just played through level 2 as well... and saved again.

    it works perfectly.

white screen with opl (hmm)... anyway it works with advance as noted above...

i realize that the true meaning of the note that had been there was probably forgotten over time and nobody really wanted to troubleshoot the long retired usbadvance with me... thats ok... im just letting you guys know that it does work.. and usbadvance is still the only (public release) thing that will play it via usb..

so if someone would be so kind as to reinstate the compatibility of VJ2 onto the usbadvance list with the note "patch ioprp"... im sure someone would appreciate it.

Works on OPL beta since revision 398, as you ca see in Jimmi's commit:

And no need to patch anything

The OP's talking about Viewtiful Joe 2, not the original Viewtiful Joe.

@OP: I remembered that someone told me that VJ2 worked with OPL quite some time ago.

I don't know whether it still works with the latest OPL revisions, or if it had actually worked with OPL to begin with, since I never owned that game.

well i'm not a coder. so this news does not pertain to me... im awaiting further official releases of opl like most people.

    thanks though

i just wanna play the games. if that means applying a patch and using usbadvance thats no big deal to me...
you guys wanna stress people to "only" use open ps2 loader but the truth is that usbadvance still has better usb compatibility... aside from opl revisions. which are somewhat irritating to keep hearing about if you're not a coder... nevertheless

opl strong points are definitely smb and hd.

so back to my original point... somebody just took VJ2 down from the usbadvance list as working in order to avoid trying to figure it out with me or just to discourage working with usbadvance in general.

and now that i figured out the discrepancy. still they're going to leave it off the list just because "nobody should be using advance anymore"

i just want the games to work... and i am not a coder.

i am a tester not a developer... i just use what works. and usbadvance still works better

though it is very nice that a lot of the games that dont work with one work with the other... still advance does better for me

no i mean tester in the completely literal sense as in i play games or try to play games with what is available.

without having to run linux or dual booting or learning to compile anything. i would be happy to download the latest .elf file and try playing games with it...... testing.

and i apologize for a mistake i made in forgetting where i had read the compatibility note for VJ2. It had always been red on the old SKSAPPs list. the special note i had read was within usbutil2.0 help list which is full of bad translation... my mistake for going off about the sksapps list. but still the game works and is not reflected on the list.

    whoops
