Trying to get "Open PS2 Loader" to recognize games and create a VMC on the Hard Drive. –

Here's what I got.
PS2 FAT
Network Adapter
Internal Hard Drive (attached via network adapter)
Memory Card with Free McBoot
USB (contents HDLoader, BOOT Folder)
Filezilla (on PC)
Now, using HDLoader I installed a couple of games to my PS2's hard drive already. I'm told compatibility on Open PS2 Loader is better so I want to go that route. I followed a tutorial on Youtube that said I need to create an OPL directory, with OPL contents including the ELF file, followed by a folder called VMC? I'm most comfortable doing that with FileZilla. But when I managed to establish an FTP connection between the PS2 and my computer. I couldn't "see" any games stored on the hard disk inside my PS2. (they show up in HDLoader just fine) None of the ISO's had surfaced.
Please, I need help on how to get Open PS2 Loader to recognize my games taken from the HDLoader, moreover what's the method for creating a Virtual Memory with the Hard Drive?

You're better off just using uLaunch to create the +OPL partition. From there, launching OPL 0.9.x should automatically create the other necessary folders within the +OPL partition (i.e. CFG, ART, VMC, etc) so you'll be set there. If you insist on using FTP, somebody else may chime in with their expertise on that (I can't be certain, but you may need uLaunch anyway to set up the PS2 as host and then use PS2Client on your PC to make the FTP connection). Another option is to remain patient as SP193 is finishing up a new SMAP driver that greatly improves transfers using HDL_Dump ... and there's plenty of us that have been chomping at the bit to re-compile OPL with his updated SMAP driver. They'll report back to doctorxyz for official inclusion ...
Other than that, OPL should see everything you installed with HDLOADER provided that you have HDD set to "Auto" within OPL's options. Otherwise, you'll have to press X to start the HDD manually. If OPL still doesn't show your games, I would recommend hooking the HDD to a PC (if you have a spare IDE port; a IDE-to-USB or IDE-to-SATA dongle if you don't), and using WINHIIP to scan and repair the file system. If OPL still doesn't show your games after that, hook the drive back up to the PC and use WINHIIP to re-format the drive clean and re-install your games. This method is much, much better; WINHIIP only takes only 3 to 6 minutes per ISO as opposed to 20 to 40 minutes per game using HDLoader ...

How do I create a partition in the PS2's Hard Drive? I feel like that's the only hurdle that stands in my way. When I launched OPL 0.8 I got scared of the HDD options so I did not mess with them. But now that you confirmed the auto/manual options are what's needed to see my games now I'm ready to use those options.
I'll hold off on FTP, you're right it ain't necessary. Please let me know how I can create an OPL partition within the PS2 on my internal Hard Drive. Does it have to say "+OPL" or just "OPL"? Also I thought about using 0.9 to begin with but the instructions weren't all the way translated to English.
EDIT 1: Nevermind about the partition bit I learned how to create it. Which only leaves one question, by creating a partition I assume you meant "create folder within the HDD" in that case must the partition/folder say OPL or +OPL? For now I'll see if I can add OPL+ since that's the one you spoke of.
EDIT 2: I failed. Attempted to create a new partition on; I set it up in HDDManager and R1 named it +OPL and OKed the partition at 128 MB. It said "Creating New Partition..." all of the sudden it froze. Where did I go wrong?

uLE (uLaunchELF)
Filebrowser
Misc
hddmanager
once loaded R1
Create chose size best to have it what you want it can be expanded this way too but will fragment slows down boot into OPL
OPL case sensitive

One problem: you HAVE to use OPL 0.9.x ...
Nothing I've said here will work on OPL 0.8 because that version of OPL is severely deprecated (it stored configuration data on the memory card instead of HDD/USB devices, and has a lower compatibility since it doesn't benefit from bug fixes and functionality added to OPL since then).
Run uLaunch and go into the file browser ...
From there, choose MISC to display a bunch of tools (i.e. txt file viewer, jpg viewer etc.) and you should see an HDD manager among them. When the HDD manager launches, you should see a pie graph and information about your HDD. Pressing R1 should bring up a menu. From that menu, you can create partitions and their size. So create a 1GB partition and name it "OPL" and viola. You should now have a +OPL partition on your hard drive (the "+" is automatically added by uLaunch since it's a user-created partition). Once that's done, press SELECT (could be START - I get 'em mixed up) to leave the HDD manager. You should be back in the file browser's MISC section. From here, you can either press SELECT twice to leave uLaunch altogether (which should reboot FMCB) or you can use the file browser to wherever you stored the OPNPS2LD.ELF file and press CIRCLE to launch it directly.
Once you start OPL, if you had set the HDD start method to AUTO in OPL's options, it'll automatically power up the HDD, scan for the +OPL partition and installed games, and then automatically create the necessary folders such as ART, CFG, VMC etc within it as well as show everything you installed with HDLOADER. If your HDD is set to "Manual", it won't do this until you press "X" to power up HDD manually. Again, I re-iterate: OPL 0.8 will not do this - only OPL 0.9.x will. Failure to use OPL 0.9.x will result in much frustration trying to get all of this to work for you.

It freezes after saying "Creating New Partition..." where did I go wrong? I was so sure I had every thing figured out by now. Does it normally take long to partition 1024 MB? I'm grateful for your help, any further suggestions would be helpful.
EDIT 1: I did every thing Bat Rastard said. Is there something wrong with my Hard Drive? Help!
EDIT 2: It has occured to me it could be the either the HDD or the type of mod I used. For some strange reason I got the feeling it's the latter. My PS2 is chipped with the Toxic logo a buddy did it for me. I am running Free McBoot from the memory card and obviously the USB contains all of the files necessary for boot. But What's missing here? I'd REALLY like to get to the bottom of this because if I can conquer this one obnoxious obstacle then installing Open PS2 Loader is cake.

Toxic speaks volumes ...
http://psx-scene.com/forums/f150/pro...dd-dvd9-99684/ (Problems with OPL 0.8 + Internal HDD + DVD9)
I'm thinking page 2 and 3 of this thread could help you ...
My guess is you gotta disable the mod chip, hook the HDD up to PC and see if WINHIIP detects it as a TOXIC OS or HDLOADER file system. If its the former (i.e. TOXIC), use WINHIIP to format it as an HDLOADER file system, and install one game. Then try creating that 1GB OPL partition with uLE again (shouldn't take long), and then running OPL. If it lists that one game you installed in the game list, you're good to go. Hook the drive back up to the PC and use WINHIIP to install the rest of your games. Another thing to rule out: insert your USB stick in your PC and scan it for errors. Plenty of times, both uLE and OPL have frozen on me because my USB stick had a corrupt/lost file chain due to be being impatient and removing the USB stick without clicking the "safely remove" icon in the taskbar.

You can create the partition for OPL in setting for changeable partition but you have to add the +OPL not just OPL with WINHIIP
Change __main to +OPL choose size and format

Crap, I had a feeling I would be told to take apart my PC and use WINHIIP I am really trying to avoid that but at this rate that would seem impossible. *sighs* I'm no where near PC savvy so this becomes a problem. Is there another way?
The USB drive is checked, it's in functional condition. Once more I thank you for guys for the assistance you have provided thus far, likewise I am grateful for any additional suggestions you may offer.

The only other method is USB encloser for your HD or caddy
