My brother's PS2 Slim laser is having dificulties reading DVDs, so I'm thinking of giving him my SwapMagic 3.6 CD, put his games in a USB stick and boot from it using OPL (I'm searching for a SwapMagic compatible 32gb pendrive, I hope they exist...).

    - Does OPL work when booted directly as mco:/SWAPMAGIC/SWAPMAGIC.ELF, or do i have to use uLE as SWAPMAGIC.ELF, then run OPL?

    - Will OPL recognize the ISOs on the same media (usb) it booted from?

    Thanks in advance

should work, but why not try installing FMCB on his memcard, so that he needs no swapmagic disk anymore?

Edit: That is what I use in my FAT PS2, but his PS2 Slim is not compatible with it. And because he plays EyeToy/Buzz games, I only have 1 USB port for the homebrew/games.

Edit2: I bought a Sandisk Cruzer Blade 32GB pen today and it is compatible with SwapMagic, so I'm going to test OPL with it and report back my findings when possible.

Tested and working! Although I will not recommend Sandisk Cruzer Blade to nobody as it is slow as hell, about 4mb/s for write speed and 20mb/s for read speed. Buzz! Junior games seem to work fine but videos skip a lot and are unwatchable, I reduced the Intro PSS down to 33% quality but the in-game videos are inside a .PAK file so I can't get to them, and I only found PAK editors for GH games... The other Buzz! Games freeze in a black screen after pressing a button to skip the stuttering intro, reducing the intro PSS quality seems to (sometimes) avoid this problem, I was able to play Buzz! Mega Quiz twice all the way to the end. Maybe I'll try replacing the intros for a blank PSS video.

for the cost of a 32G USB stick you probably could have got a small external HDDand used that.......

It costs 15 euros, but that's why it is also slow as hell on my laptop's usb 2.0 ports. As I said, it was only to replace the dying laser, run a handfull of games and boot directly from swap magic.

So, answering my own question: SwapMagic + (sandisk) pendrive + OPL + ISOs works nice, with slow loading and stuttering videos as expected. Well, at least it gives new life to an almost dead PS2!
