hi, i cant seem to find any documentation regarding the USB-DELAY feature (perhaps because it is a beta feature, so not officially documented yet..)

can anyone confirm what its purpose is..? i did some tests, and would like to know, is the usb-delay feature only active on launching opl, and its function is to prevent the usb games list from not being displayed on some setups? (eg. you simply increase the usb-delay number, if your usb gameslist is not being displayed on launching opl, but instead you have eg. a black/empty screen?)

From what I remember, this feature may provide more compatibility with some USB devices. See this thread:

interesting, i had a read and saw this:
Please consider adding officially this useful USB Delay feature into OPL menus...this could increase the mass device compability, since some of them need some “extra” time between GUI part and core part, when launching games...
i did notice the longer delay on initial startup of opl if the usb-delay number is increased. but when a game itself, is launched, i did not notice any difference in time from the switchover between the opl menu screen and the 'coloured' loading screens (although perhaps the yellow screen colour, stays up longer if the usb-delay amount is increased?)

anyway, the reason i asked all this is, if i have usb-delay set below 3, on starting opl i do not get a games list displayed (using various beta versions..)

but it works ok if i increase the usb-delay number. i also get the occasional hang/freeze in the opl menu (using various betas) when pressing X to launch a game, forcing me to reboot the ps2. however, this is rare so i can live with it, and it seems to be less of a problem if i do not move around the menus within opl too quickly (eg. trying to launch a game when artwork is loading...)

summary: all in all perhaps this just might be an issue with the compatibility of the usb drive i am using. i did try reformat using 64k cluster size, but behaviour has not changed from when i had default 32k cluster size. as i said before, the crashing is quite rare so not something which has proved to be a serious problem, and something i can live with!

It's interesting that OPL can handle your USB-Device at all, since I thought it only worked up to 4KB-Cluster...

i think when a usb device is formatted using the recommended USBExtreme software format option, it sets the cluster (allocation unit) size to 32k by default (i think)

i found out that by using this free software instead though:
    Ridgecrop Consultants Ltd
it allows you to format a usb device using a higher cluster size (64k)

so far, 64k seems to work just as well as say, 32k, using opl beta... (not that i imagine using higher cluster sizes would ever have any advantages in opl, due to the slow usb 1.1 ps2 usb ports...)

My HDD has 32KB clusters too.
And I don't see any limitation in the USBHDFSD driver that limits the cluster size to 4096 bytes (4KB).

The cluster size does not affect the performance of any USB-device game loader while in-game (With the possible exception of USBExtreme/USBAdvance).

However, having the correct cluster size will mean that you will get maximum performance while installing/defragmenting your games with a system that reads data based on the size of the clusters of the disk (E.g. your PC).

Having a too-large cluster size is bad too. Space will be wasted.
