As far as i know the fake adapters don't have the network part hardwarewise. It's only use is to put a hdd and play from there, i have a fake adapter that doesn't even have the ethernet port.
Well, they sometimes do, the thing is they just don't work. I read in another post on another forum by l_oliveira (I believe I've seen him around here as well):
"The chinese fakes (with PATA ports) use surplus of the CXD9731 chip. They usually come with an non functioning network port (no ethernet PHY or magnetics) and all have probably the exact same MAC ADDRESS."
And probably that's what mine is missing too.
And the fact that the logo is different (and very bad!) makes me believe for 99.99% this is a fake. Some research on the seller also shows there are many buyers complaining about fake stuff.
Unfortunately, I found out too late
Well, i still don't find it to be a bad thing. Ok, you can't use the network features, but remember 95% of online gaming is dead and the rest is not even fun anymore, and you can attach a hard disk and still play from there... the win/lose ratio is pretty abismal here, i wouldn't complain if i were you... Now, if the seller was selling this shit like an ORIGINAL BBA you should make yourself heard...

So, that makes everything seem pretty original to me. Althought it doesn't say original, the fact that is mae by Sony make it original, right? Now I know better of course. Anyway, this means the I'm being lied to from the start. Moreover, the network port is capable of more then just connecting you to the internet (homebrew) + it is still possible to game online, albeit not at central station or whatever it is called.
The problem is, ebay gives you 45 days to file a complaint. And I only found out now that i've been scammed. And the fact that this seller has a very high (positive) feedback, doesn't give you the feeling you're dealing with someone who sells fake products.
