Not valid for SMB, but sure it's necessary for playing over USB.
Even a plugged USB drive to PC and shared via SMB doesn't need to be defragmented.

'Basically' an anonymous setup, but it isn't (at least in Home Premium). You can actually set an 'anonymous' account by sharing to 'anonymous'. Also, Win7 Ultimate allows for finer tweaking of security settings, whereas Home Premium does not. (hence my need for the anonymous access, since I can't set the finer security settings for SMB itself).

I wasn't sure if this also apply to splitfiles. ( I had some trouble with a game in earlier versions so i decided to defragment splitfiles also on SMB share )

Anyway it isn't bad to have files unfragmented even if it is not required for OPL, but your OS ( MS in this case ) will have better handling for the files ( MS is slow if you have too many fragmented files, it perform better with unfragmented files ).

This is possible but not needed.

Giving read access to your shared folder for "Everyone" with password protection set to off in Win7 is sufficient for use with OPL. I did this before switching to secure share. In WinXP Pro it was also enough ( Iirc you had activate Guest account also but why i don't know, MS is sometimes a miracle ).

In theory someone who knows your ip and know how to get past your router/modem could access these filesharing with both methods.

Guys you are geniouses! I added the guest account and bam all my games showed up! This was on a w2k3 box, I don't care about my win7 machine the other one is hard wired...Amazingly, FMV's still stutter, is this due to OPL or it just can't stream it that fast no matter?

In some games it works flawless and in some other games it stutters. In later revisions you can try some compatibility modes which can stop stutter for some games even if this mode was meant for other purpose ( compatibilty for game(s)).

And we are glad you got it working
