Using OPL with a fat PAL PS2 console (50004) with Matrix Infinity chip (v1.99), IDE HDD (80 GB), no optic drive at all (removed) and NTSC TV gives me a red screen when I tried to run it from the HDD, I've installed OPL using dev2install and saved the configuration into HDD. When the console starts I press L1 but the red screen appears always.

Hardware issues. The MATRIX chip elf launcher does that when it can't access the DEV9 device(whatever is connected to the expansion port connector) properly.

Have your console serviced by a technician or get another unit. Make sure you test the network adapter and harddrive on another console before, to make sure if it's not the harddrive or the network adapter the source of your problem.

If the console had the "golden disc syndrome, the fault that causes it (short circuit on IOP address lines) will also prevent the expansion bay from working properly.

The console is in very bad shape (too much use with some other modifications). After the red screen I checked (with uLE) if the HDD was properly connected, the results were as you said, there was no HDD connected, maybe a loose connection. Anyways I suspect that there's a problem with the console, I tested the HDD in my fat PS2 and it worked properly. Thank you very much for the fast answer.
