I've just set up OPL to work on my PS3 using SwapMagic (7th USB storage device was the charm, apparantly!), but the main game I wanted to use it for was Namco X Capcom translated and the FMV is a bit slow.

On USB, the video plays fine for 10 seconds then goes stop-start. On SMB, it's slow from the start and the title screen music goes fast for 5 seconds before going back to normal.

SMB also has longer load times. I'm wondering if this is normal or if my router has some streaming issues. (The firewall is down). I was also wondering if I could maybe downsample the video and try and improve performance that way?

    Thanks for any help.

    It's wired and on 0.8.

I set my PS3 at 100mbps full duplex and my PC the same but no difference.

    hi friend...

currently the video ps2 that can format are mostly mpeg1 and mpeg2,
and the others from game engines, like .bik .vid, etc...
if you reencode, (downsample) the video to mpeg1 it will fit perfect, but you have to do with the highter stream hate, or that video will be full of that crap grids, i haved tested and works perfectly for me on the game dino stalker on pendrive

(MPEG-1 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

(BUT it only works on games that have mpegs videos)

    sorry for my bad english
    i never learned!

you could if there not far apart use a crossed cable from pc <--> ps3 , if then it still lags greatly either bug in OPL (game compat.) or to much other things going on either on pc or ps3 , get up wire-shark and see what's happing on the cable.

I have the same problems with my PS3. When ever I play a game over SMB on the PS3 loadtimes are long and FMVs stutter. If I then take the ethernet cable out of my PS3 and plug it in my PS2 and play games over SMB, everything runs smooth. I use the same version of OPL and config on both consoles.

One thing you guys havent mentioned is if your using a PS3 with PS2 hardware or PS2 emulation, as im sure that makes a big difference in how the games will run.

A PS3 with PS2 hardware "should" run as well as a real PS2, but im just guessing on that, i dont know for certain. PS2 emulation is all software and its bound to cause incompatibilities or affect how a game runs.

Just figured i'd mention that, so its something to consider......
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

Hope I can help a tiny bit.

I tested this on two PS3s, an 80GB software-BC (CECHE) and a 60GB hardware-BC (CECHA). On both of them I tested via SMB over Ethernet. The 80GB had horrible FMV stuttering that seemed exactly the same as running the game through USB. The 60GB has virtually no problems with FMVs through SMB at all. (I might have seen one or two split-second hiccups, but I'm not 100% sure it was a stutter).

(Also, FWIW, my 60GB did not work with the stable release of 0.8 (503/504), due to this bug (OPL 0.8 PS3 problem). I had to build my own (587, but 535+ should work)).

    Thanks Hasney,

I was trying to get a 60gb usb hdd to load opl from Swapmagic and No Go. I came accross your post and I got lucky... 3rd usb device worked!! Got some more reading to do to figure out to make the ps2 disc backups I have into iso's.

    Thanks Again!!
