Hi, I am in need of some assistance.

Long time ago I tried Open PS2 Loader and it worked successfully. I was able to play some Metal Gear Solid so I know it works.

Again, this was a long time ago and now I have aqcuired a larger HDD so I can use it. But now when I try to load up Open PS2 Loader, it hangs on the Swap Magic screen after I press the Up+L1 button. Can this be because I updated my PS3 firmware? Or am I doing something wrong?

I'm using 0.7 if it matters.

Yes the new PS3 firmware update may have affected swap magic's ability to use some USB devices, according to some people's reports.

Most reports say that the black screen just means that particular USB device is not compatible with the PS3/Swap Magic combo, and to try another one.
You should try to find a list of already tested USB hard drives that are known to be compatible.

Use a PS2 to make a Swapmagic compatible save with OPL ELF as boot file. Then have it moved to a virtual MC on the PS3 HDD. That worked for me.

You can't relaunch stuff but it should work on the 1st boot. Try to relaunch (or use uLE for example) and the PS3 will exit to the VSH/XMB with an hypervisor error message.

    Hi,
it is possible that Sony did change the ps2 usb drivers with a FW update but it has not affected most of the people I know.
Ok, you say that you got a bigger HDD. So are you saying that you canīt launch OPL with the new hdd or that you can no longer use OPL with your older hdd? SM usb compatibilty on the ps3 isnīt that good so it could be that your new hdd isnīt compatible with SM. If thatīs the case you could always use a SM compatible usb device to 1st boot up and then switch with your new hdd.
Another possiblle expanation is that you were using a old version of OPl, usbloader, which worked with a usbd.irx you provided on the mc. that usbd.irx might have been compatible, while the one that OPL now uses, isnīt compatible.
But reading over your post I would definately say the problem is the SM usb compatibilty and not OPLs, since your crashing on the SM boot screen. have you tried to launch any other elfs?

Ya, this is definately the best way to go because you avoid SMs por usb compatibilty. Unfortunately you canīt use this method on the ps3s with no EE chip for some reason

Ya that is funny. on the ps2 you can relaunch things all day but I guess this might be some ps3 security feature?

I got one of those converters that makes PS2 controllers USB and I need to unplug it whenever I boot from my flash drive...

Took me ages to work out that was why I kept getting a black screen at swap magic.

    Don't know if this helps.
