So if one had a backwards compatible ps2, and swapmagic, and you used the ps3's USB port. Does that mean it would be reading the games at USB 2.0 speed?

    Try it and find out?

In all honesty, assuming it actually works, I wouldn't bet on it, but you never know.

No. All PS2 game loaders that use USB-devices running on the PS3 will always operate the USB ports at high speed mode (12 Mbps; USB 1.1).

All PS2 games were made with USB drivers that used USB 1.1, so unless someone creates new USB drivers to use USB 2.0, they will always run at 1.1 speed.
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

I have a follow up question; does OPL support upscaling and smoothing of PS2 games on the PS3?

Since OPL is purely a PS2 application it can not in any way affect how the PS3 renders the virtual PS2 screen output to the physical PS3 screen output.

Only PS3 software can affect that rendering. To be specific, I mean the PS2 backwards compatibility emulator of the PS3, and whatever configuration options it may have.

Right, so you're saying that whatever settings I have for PS2 emulation on my PS3 will carry over in OPL?

    Yes, they should.
The global PS2 emulation settings of the PS3 should apply for all PS2 applications and games.

In any case, there is absolutely nothing any PS2 application can do to affect such things, since they live entirely inside the virtual PS2 platform. And applications running there can have no direct influence on the PS3 behaviour, but only on the state of the virtual PS2 console and its behaviour, with only indirect influence on the PS3 in generating virtual PS2 screen and sound output data. But the rendition of such data to the physical screen and sound channels of the PS3 is entirely in the hands of the PS3 software handling the emulation.

    Best regards: dlanor
