PS2 Save File Info –

[edit]Would a Mod please move this post up one level, belongs in PS2 Dev, not OPL[/edit]
Okay, I figured I'd write an instructional post on how the PS2 memory card saves work, because I've seen MANY people complaining about "Corrupted Data" on their cards.
First off, ALL saves should be in a folder. (any files not in a folder WILL show as corrupted, they aren't, just the PS2 doesn't know what else to call them)
Secondly, there MUST be an icon description (icon.sys) file in the folder, otherwise it shows corrupted. This file points to another file, the graphics file of the icon. (names vary, usually .ico or .icn) Both must be present.
Third, any subfolders WILL NOT be computed in Sony Browser's "Size" Say you have /BOOT/MY_FILES/ on your memory card. Only the files in /BOOT/ will be totaled in Sony's Browse function, and in order for it to not show as corrupted there must at least be /BOOT/icon.sys and one or more icon graphic files (usually named .ico or .icn)
So, in summary, the three ways to have Sony show corruption on your card are:
1. Files in the root of the card. e.g. /BOOT.ELF
2. Folders without icon.sys and/or the icon graphics file.
3. Actual corruption
Before you start worrying that you broke your card look for situation 1. or 2.
Any questions/comments/corrections/suggestions for this post are welcomed.
