CAT5, CAT6, CAT7 define the CAble-Type (and in CAT7's case even the connectors, since a CAT7-Cable with an RJ45/Standard-LAN-Connection doesn't follow the CAT7-Specs).

Edit: All Homebrews that I know of (for PS2), support configuring the network on their own, if they do support network-related stuff...
