Hi i had some games formatted to the ps2 internal hd for a while and they work. I've switch to usb hd in opl or esdl and I thought the gamelist would easily load up, but no. this is the first time trying usb hd to ps2. All I get is nothing or I think esdl freezes on.

Did you take the internal HDD, attach it to a USB adapter/enclosure and try to use it with OPL/PS2ESDL? If so, this is impossible as the DEV9 interface uses Sony's APA partitioning scheme while the use of USB drives requires FAT32 formatting. You'll need to either extract the game images from the HDD using WinHIIP, or go back and re-rip your original discs to ISO form (and games that are larger than 4GB will need to be "installed", OPL supports USBAdvance-style installation in 1GB chunks, while PS2ESDL supports that as well as SP193's own PS2ESDL format in 1.74GB chunks).

Yes on first question. Right now its hard to do stuff on mac compared to pc. Sure there are some mac advantages, but wanted to try usb drive esdl or opl. The external hd is formatted to Fat 32 already. I'm going to wait a while so that I can run some windows app on mac using something similar to bootcamp.

I feel for you man, macs are great but not for PS2 related software. However if you want to load programs for the PS2, like the ESDL game installer, you will need to use bootcamp and get windows partitioned on your mac. Programs like WinOnX and Crossover exist to allow you to run windows programs on mac without bootcamp, but they have very limited compatibility and the programs that do work, don't work too well. You can always try to emulate windows on mac with VirtualBox and then try the installers, however I don't know if that will work as well as bootcamp.

I have successfully used my girlfriend's Macbook with VMware Fusion running XP to install games to an external USB FAT32 drive. I've also used the same setup successfully with WinHIIP to access a PS2 APA HDD for game installation. You just have to make sure that you attach the USB device to Windows rather than the Mac (at least with VMware Fusion it gives you the option when you plug in a device).
