This is the second post I see where you ask that question.
And once more I tell you to just google for it. Preferably with a clarifier like "acronym".
So in the google search box you just enter:
    SMB acronym

I promise that you will find all you need this way.
And you can use the same method for just about any acronym in existence, not just SMB.

Believe it or not nowadays it means "SAMBA" ( But used to mean Server Message Block )

Edit: This is a humorous comment, please interpret it that way. And SMB really means Server Message Block. SAMBA is how they call the UNIX implementation of SMB services.

Thank you for the clear and very explanatory answers.

However, let me reformulate my question:
Is there any way (program maybe) to load and run images (ISO or iso2opl format like) of PS1 games on PS2 via SMB?

    No.

That applies not only to SMB, but to all storage devices a PS2 can access.

The only way to run PS1 games with acceptable results on a PS2 is to use the PS1 driver supplied by Sony, and this means that none of the PS2 storage devices or their device drivers are available, since that PS1 driver uses the slave CPU called 'IOP' as PS1 CPU, and needs all the IOP RAM for PS1 programs.

This makes it impossible to also use the same IOP CPU and the same IOP RAM for their normal purpose of handling the PS2 storage devices and/or the LAN interface.

The only way to achieve the functionality you want would be if we had a fully working PS1 emulator designed to run on the main CPU of the PS2 (called 'EE'), and emulating PS1 game programs in EE RAM, so that the IOP and IOP RAM are free for handling I/O devices as usual.

But the only such homebrew emulator in existence is still in an early beta stage, unfit for public release (has no sound and too slow speed), and is available only to a limited set of beta testers. And at this point there is no time-plan for when this might change.

So for the present and for the foreseeable future, such use of PS1 games over network remains impossible. (Except in limited form to those PS2PSXe beta testers.)

    Best regards: dlanor

Thank you dlanor. That's all I wanted to know!

Know that you are not throwing words out, I really appreciate and understand your answer.

I hope the PS2PSXe beta testers succeed in their work.

    All the best!
