    Hey guys,

I'm try to defrag my PS2 HDD with power defragmenter but it won't detect the HDD.
I have it connected via a USB enclosure.
Do i need to fiddle with the master/slave settings ?

Winhiip can detect it with no problem, does winhiip have a defrag tool ?

No but it does have repair and restore utils, Power defragmenter will only see normal pc formatted drives FAT/FAT16/FAT32/NTFS etc not PS2 formatted HDD's.

There is no need to defragment a PS2 HDD, as any new games you might install will simply use up those fragments. The only time it becomes an issue is when installing a second layer of a DVD9 (dual layered) disc.

You only need to defragment a USB device your using for OPL to play USB Games from and that must be FAT32 formatted.

The downside of that is the Sony HDD Utility disc only works on a Sony HDD or a HDD that is in use with a Modchip's Patch ATAD option enabled. It is also limited to a 28bit HDD (under 137GBs).

There is another option, but its a bit of work. Simply delete games at the end of the drive, totalling the amount of fragmented space reported, then re-install those games and they will use up the fragments. You will be left with all free space....minus whatever was leftover if your deleted/re-installed games were just short of the total fragmented space you started with.

By deleting games at the end of the drive, you create consecutive empty space (Free Space), by deleting games that are elswhere on the drive, you create empty space in between other files (fragmented space).

You can view your files by the blocks (each partition ) of a game, by doing a scan with Winhiip and then see which games are actually at the end of the drive.
