    Hello all,

I have a question regarding HDD compatibility. I have a 160GB Seagate drive inside my PS2 that works just fine. I can see all the games that I have on it.

I have another drive. It is a Western Digital Caviar 200GB. I have tried an enclosure and even an IDE-USB cable to try to connect this drive to my PS2. Whenever I try to activate it through USB Devices inside Open Loader, I get a spinning blue icon at the lower right hand corner and it appears as though the system freezes.

When I try to access the drive from uLe Launcher, the system freezes. Could it be a drive incompatibility or am I just missing something?

Ok if you used the 160GB with that en-closer and it worked has to be HD if it is a different en-closer then try your 160G in it see if it will see it
Most of the time it is en-closer that causes the problem not the HD if it is formatted to Fat 32 and all games on it are defragmented

    PSP 3000 9G 6.20 PRO CFW Perm
Unofficial FMCB v1.8C OPL self compiled HD and SMB preferred
Is how all good gaming systems came to be

could be too low voltage on usb port, or potential incompatibility with usb-1.* or a bad usb cable. some kingston flashdrives have such issues too.

also, incorrectly created partition on hdd (unlikely, but possible).

does the drive have its own power supply?

Not all IDE drives compatible with PS2.I have tried 160GB USB HDD but PS2 cant see it.I made a partition about 110GB and formatted with FAT32 filesystem then it recognized. For internal use(U have FAT PS2 right?) I know you cannot use WD IDE HDDs because other IDE drives' pinout is 4x2 but on WDs 5x2 so it cant fit to network adapter. If you want to use via USB make it about 100-110GB(I cant remember what size exactly) max.

    Correct,

I have a FAT PS2 with a 160GB IDE Seagate on the inside.

When using my Western Digital drive, it is of the 3.5" variety so yes it does have its own dedicated power supply. I have both an enclosure and also an adapter that I can use to let the drive sit freely on the table outside an enclosure but still connect via USB to the PS2.

I used WinHIIP v 1.7.6 to format the drive and install my images to it. I formatted it as PS2 and there is no fragmentation of any kind. I can try to shrink the volume size if you believe that will help out.

But for USB hard drive they have to stay in Fat32 not like internal HD it is PSFS (Play station Filing System)
for the USB uLE and OPL read FAT32 and 16 only

That may be why it is not working and you don't use WinHIIP v 1.7.6 for USB you use this

and Games under 4Gb can be put on usb without just copy and paste to folder named DVD

Take a look at the guide

Read a while back that some IDE WD drives hooked to a modified fat PS2's net adapter were very fickle when it comes to jumper configuration. Some require Master (i.e. no jumper) while others required Cable Select. This fickleness also extends to certain USB enclosures. There's a ton of cheap ones out there with little to no documentation, and I recall reading about a few that required a jumper config for Cable Select mode for the PS2, but Master (i.e. no jumper) for a computer -- all because of a shoddy controller chip. Wouldn't wish one of them on my worst enemy ...

Another question without opening another thread,

I have acquired a PS3 80GB with full hardware PS2 support (4 USB ports, media reader, etc).

I have the 3.55 OFW on it. Is there anyway I can get OpenLoader on it with my HDAdvance disc or files already loaded onto my existing memory card??

Can any of the open source JB support this method in playing PS2 games or am I stuck getting a Cobra dongle??

This also applies to PS1 games as well.

I do not mind burning CDs but would prefer to use my IDE drives that are laying around.

    Thanks again for your time.

You can use SMB and USB modes but not internal HDD unfortunately. You are stuck to cobra.
